What factors might make 'System UI Server' hang?
« on: December 04, 2006, 09:59:39 AM »
Periodically, when I look at my Activity Monitor, a process named 'System UI Server' is displayed in red w/ 'hung' in parentheses after the name.

Sometimes I just ignore it, and other times I Force Quit it, w/o any apparent ill effect to the overall working of the OS or other running processes / apps.

Any insights into what this is about or its significance?

TIA, KB

[This is on my MDD dual 867 w/ 1 GB RAM running 10.3.9]

If you have any 3rd party items in the menu bar (especially those that need get info. from a server on line) they could be causing the System UI Server to hang.
