The Character Palette shown in the example is different than the one I have in Panther. Must be an upgrade in Tiger.

Not at all, but the Character palette lets you see and use stuff that is much harder to find with the keyboard display. With Character Palette, you can see every character the font is capable of or sort by types[/] of characters ( narrow your search for numbers, symbols, etc. ). Almost negates the need for PopChar!
