David Pogue's Vista Review

So it looks better, (thank you Apple)
It’s more secure if your patient.
It has a glitch in icon locations.
Its takes an exxtra step to add music.

Major stumble on the floating layer of mini-programs but not FUBR.

The loss of Netmeeting, and a subtle attempt to have you purchase an expensive Office Program.

A good review and hopefully a secure product, for the consumer’s sake.

The downside is it’s full capability only applies to 6-10% of the existing hardware, and with the inevitable price increase in new computers, as a result of this improved OS, and the recent SP2 upgrade for Windows XP, I don’t see a real demand for this product.

The timing of this release gives me pause as well; they seem to want it to trickle out carefully rather than their usual tsunami of “desire promoting” must-have-ads. Attempting to avoid bad press perhaps while in it’s Beta phase?

Not much of a Vista in the fog of glitches... ?

QUOTE
You get the feeling that Microsoft’s managers put Mac OS X on an easel and told the programmers, “Copy that.”

QUOTE
Now, before the hate-mail tsunami begins, it’s important to note that Apple has itself borrowed feature ideas on occasion, even from Windows. But never this broadly, boldly or blatantly. There must be enough steam coming out of Apple executives’ ears to power the Polar Express.

Well, I'll not be one of those standing in line on January 30 (if there is a line, which I doubt, after reading Pogue's review) - for me, XP Pro via either Parallels or BootCamp (haven't decided yet) is going to be just the ticket, and allow me to fling that ugly beige box out the door.

Pouge is so good for a grin.  smile.gif

Windows is still Windows.

The graphics still look 3rd gradish compared to MacOSX.

I just read a few days ago that Apple is about to get a new Face-Off.
Rumor has it that we'll see it introduced at MacWorld.
I don't put much stock in rumors but it's about time and the graphics department must have been doing something all these years?  coolio.gif

I thought the new iTunes was supposed to be a sneak preview of what His Steveness wants things to look like. dntknw.gif

As for Windows, its hard for 800 pound gorillas to be subtle. smile.gif

I like this video better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTeP_eh8XAA

It has someone from Microsoft presenting the new Vista features, but the video's been replaced with Mac OS X.
