I'm getting DiskWarrior 4.0 for $8.95
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:36:51 PM »
On 2 November I ordered DW 3.0.3 as an upgrade from my prior version of 2.0. I received the CD a few days later. Then at the end of the month, Alsoft announced version 4.0.

I sent Alsoft the following email.

I just bought version 3.0.3 a few weeks ago, do I have to buy an upgrade to get version 4.0. Seems like you should have told me to wait a few weeks & I could get version 4.0.

A few hours later, I received the following response from Alsoft.

Please fax a copy of your invoice to 1-281-353-9868. Please include your name, mailing address, serial number and Visa or Mastercard number. If you purchased it within 30-45 days from today, we will only bill you shipping and handling of $8.95.

Best wishes,

Customer Service

Since I didn't have ready access to a FAX, I sent Alsoft an email with the requested information (except for the credit card number).

I had not heard back from Alsoft & the 45 day window was approaching. So I called them today. They said there is a 3 to 4 week delivery backlog for version 4.0, but I will get it then for $8.95.

The Version 3.0.3 CD includes DW for OS 9 & DW for OS X. In looking at Alsoft's web page, it appears that DW for OS 9 is not included with version 4.0. Can anyone verify this?
Cheers, Tom

I don't have OS 9 installed on my puter, but I found this in the manual on the CD:
QUOTE
Requirements
DiskWarrior supports any Mac OS Standard (HFS) or Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) disk
including RAIDs, journaled disks, case-sensitive disks, FileVaults and iPods. DiskWarrior requires a G3 Mac or better (such as a G4, G5 or Intel Core-Duo) with built-in FireWire and a minimum 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended) to startup and run from the DiskWarrior disc.

To install, your must be started from Mac OS X v. 10.3.9 or later.

The disk to be rebuilt must be locally connected, must not be write protected, and must have a valid partition map. If you plan to rebuild the directory on your startup disk, you need to start up from another disk capable of starting up Mac OS X v. 10.3.9 or later, such as the DiskWarrior Disc (refer to Rebuilding Your HFS and HFS Plus Disks on page 23 in this chapter).

I would surmise that most people running OS 10.3.9 or higher haven't got separate installs of OS 9 and Alsoft figures that those needing DW 2.1 AND DW 4 who don't already own DW 2.1 or 3.x are few and far between. After all, OS X will be 6 years old this coming year (non-beta), as will Diskwarrior 2.1. In computer years, that's a long time. At Alsoft's web site in the section on system requirements for DW 4, it says the following:

QUOTE
If your Mac is running Mac OS 9.2.2 or earlier, DiskWarrior 2.1 is still available for purchase directly from Alsoft. Please contact our Sales Department to order.

DW 2.1 is small enough to email, less than 1 MB.  wink.gif
