Setting up a domain

I'm ready to set up my board. I have selected the hosting site. I have selected the board software. Now I'm ready to buy the domain. It's available and I figured I'd use GoDaddy. Here's the hitch:

GoDaddy wants to know where the domain will be parked.

So I go to the hosting site and they want me to either already have the domain, or buy it through them.

Ugh. Catch 22 here.

So how do I do this?

If I buy it and check the "you park it GoDaddy" button, how hard is it to get it over to the hosting site I want to use? Or do I let the hosting site buy it for me? Or do I ... ??? wacko.gif

Just let GoDaddy park it. Then, when you have the hosting, you can point your domain name to the host's DNS servers. The parking is just used in the meantime to say this domain has been purchased, it doesn't prevent you from pointing the domain to the host in the future.

And there is no charge for the parking, either. smile.gif I've got a parked one mice-elf right now - no time to develop it!

What host did you choose, out of curiosity? I've got several clients with sites hosted by GoDaddy, which has worked out well, but they're not sites with the sort of demands a board would impose or anything that isn't really straightforward. Cheap too. smile.gif For the monster site I maintain - the North Andover school district (and all it's sub domains) we use LunarPages, who provide way more in the way of services and space for a very reasonable $7.95/mo.

This is so very different from the way I set up the domain Sneakers and I have, but then it's been a few years. wink.gif

And, if it's not too late, you might want to reconsider that hosting 'service'. There's too much competition around to not be more flexible. The one our church uses didn't require we use them to buy a domain even several years ago. That's just plain stoopid, IMHO. Not that you asked...blush-anim-cl.gif

Too late. I just finished setting everything up. FWIW, I think the choices I've made are the best for me. wink.gif  I think you'd find the hosting service to be decent. But I do appreciate your input.
