OT: I think I know some of these people!
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:25:10 AM »
I think I know some of these people!

I walked into a Blimpie's with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a
sandwich. I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little
chalkboard that said "buy one-get one free". "They're already
buy-one-get-one-free", she said, "so I guess they're both free". She
handed me my free sandwiches and I walked out the door. They walk among us
and many work retail.

A friend of mine bought a new fridge for his house. To get rid of his old
fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying: "Free to
good home. You want it, you take it." For three days the fridge sat there
without even one person looking twice at it. My friend decided that people
were too untrusting of this deal. It looked too good to be true, so he
changed the sign to read: "Fridge for sale $50." The next day someone
stole it. They walk among us.

One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them
shouted, "Look at that dead bird!" Someone looked up at the sky and said,
"Where?" They Walk among us!

While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which
direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking
him up every morning. She asked, "Does the sun rise in the north?" When my
brother explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for sometime,
she shook her head and said, "Oh, I don't keep up with that stuff." They
Walk Among Us!!

I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got
a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open. I
told him, "The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?" Wanting to end the call
quickly, I said, "Uh, Pacific." They Walk Among Us!

My colleague and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria, when we
overheard one of the administrative assistants talking about the sunburn
she got on her weekend drive to the shore. She drove down in a
convertible, but "didn't think she'd get sunburned because the car was
moving." They Walk Among Us!

My brother has a lifesaving tool in his car designed to cut through a
seatbelt if he gets trapped. He keeps it in the trunk.
They Walk Among Us!

My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were
discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier
multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount. They Walk Among Us!

I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring
attached to an earring by a chain. My friend said, "Wouldn't the chain rip
out every time she turned her head?" I explained that a person's nose and
ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way the head is turned.
They Walk Among Us!

I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the
lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up.
She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional
and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me, "has your plane arrived
yet?" They Walk Among Us!

While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to
go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut
into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding.
"Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6
pieces." Yep, They Walk Among Us!

They walk among us, AND THEY REPRODUCE!

That dual purchase of a discounted item must not be covered in Cashier School. I've had that happen to me a few times. Would you try to explain it to the cashier?

These days, I guess the register takes care of the math.

Oh, Those are funny!  But, sadly it is so true.
Remember the MA Jury duty thing that happened to me?  The epitome of ineptitude!
And our taxes pay their salaries.

My brother, a high school teacher, has some amazing stories too.  And those kids reproduce too, the dumber they are, the more kids they have. On and on.

Thinking.gif ABSOLUTLY TRUE STORY....  happened to me TODAY...

Stopped in at the local 'Coffee & Donut' shop for sustinance during my morning round of 'honey dos'... taped.gif

Bill came to $3.52... gave the "clerk" $4.02, as I already had enough change but not enough for this... Hopeful that I'd get $.50 back and not another lump of change.

She 'carefully' counted out my $.48 in change and handed it to me...

I looked at her and said "I gave you an extra $.02".

"Oh, yea" says she........ and hands me back the $.02 out of the till.... doh.gif  salute.gif

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him to
use the Net and he won't bother you for weeks.

Some people here at TS made fun of me for wanting to submit "OT's" about zombies but here they are!  Except these retail zombies are left in charge of cash registers and other "heavy" equipment!   biggrin.gif

I feel kind of bad for getting $7.45 back from $10 on an item at Sonic that was $2.99 before taxes!  I didn't really think about it until I got back to the office!

Did you see the 2006 Darwin Awards @ http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2006.html

Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it.
Cheers, Tom

Just caught up with this thread. My father used to tell with glee the story of how he got the wrong change in a shop and didn't notice till he was outside. He went back in and told the assistant. "Sorry - the sign says to check your change before leaving the shop as mistakes cannot be rectified afterwards."

"OK, fine" he said. "Only you gave me two pounds too much..."

Neil. that just reminded me of a time when a clerk came running out of the store to catch me because the cashier had discovered that an extra $20 bill was "stuck" to the one I gave her in payment. That's a rare turn...

Our small town postal clerk has the same joke every year during the Christmas season but I still laugh every time...

When you take a package to mail, he invariably says "Aww, now I've got to get YOU something.

Here is a dumb one of the decade, 2 kids were working for an advertising promotion for some dumb TV show and put odd little flashing llight packages on bridges and around the city of Boston.  They disturbed many people, as they looked like 'suspicious' devices, perhaps a roadside bomb like thing.
So the Boston bomb squad had to remove them before they realized they were just a prank.  The dumb people didnt realize that it cost the city about a million dollars in overtime, and sure disrupted traffic, and made quite a mess of the city.

It was all over our news this morning.  Pretty dumb, couldnt thay have warned the city that they were doing this and it was perfectly safe?  My husband said, if they had asked, the answer would have been no.
So I think that they should be made responsible for what it cost?  That would make them think twice the next time they had a pranky idea.
Its like the time *someone* put a stink bomb in the heater of our school bus, its harmless, but causes a lot of inconvienience.  So the *perp* got severely repremanded.
Dumb and dumber.

Jane - You might have already learned they weren't just kids but "kids" hired by Turner Broadcasting to help promote a new cartoon on the Cartoon Channel.  This had already been done in a number of cities but Turner should obviously have clued the authorities in on the scheme!  I'm sure fines are in order but I think some people might've been making a mountain out of a molehill!
