OSX on PCs

Apparently the newer versions of Parallels and VMware will make it much easier for OSX to be run on PCs. There may be something of the inevitable in this.

I'm waiting for Apple to release a Version of OS X for the PC users...

I can see that happening somewhere in the future. Devilish2.gif

Isn't it a bit breezy under that bridge?
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Hey... it happened with Boot Camp
someone figured out how to get Windows XP up and running on their intel mac
and then Apple releases Boot Camp

Someone gets OS X on their PC
i can definitely see OS X on a PC
HOWEVER, they would need to get some sort of security in the installation which they currently don't have because Mac OS X is only really supported on Macs.
And it would be a piracy craze like Windows is,
where like 99% of the OS are anti-piracy measures.
This account isn't hacked...
I'm actually back from hiatus (and its about darn time too)!

Apple will likely never release OS X for PCs legitimately; it would be suicide to do so.

Many companies have tried to do that. NeXT started out as a hardware company, then tried releasing their operating system for PCs. Be started out as a hardware company, then tried releasing their operating system for PCs. Every company that has ever done that, without exception, has gone bust.

The money that Apple makes is in the hardware, not the software. Selling copies of Mac OS X for PCs is as profitable as selling computers, and only a tiny sliver of the peope who have PCs would buy it.

Apple presently makes money on hardware because it doesn't have a large distributor which would include OSX on their computers. The major part of Microsoft's income is not from individual people buying Windows but from the computer manufacturers who pay a fee to them to include the OS on their machines. Should Apple get in the position of seeing OSX being pirated onto PCs, it may be the necessary evil to deal with Dell and/or others to offer X on their units. Obviously they wouldn't want to be responsible for trying to make X compatible with all the various hardware but it could be offered in a non or semi-supported manner.

I'm not advocating this, just understanding what might come about in the future. Remember the quote Steve made recently that he was more excited about the iPhone et al, than the computer aspect of Apple Inc.

That makes me think different. wink.gif
