Backing up iTunes to an external FW HDD
« on: February 02, 2007, 01:17:57 PM »
huh.gif  I have burned my iTunes to a disk for back up, no problem.  But I would like to also back it up to an external FW HDD......I looked at the 'export' function but that doesn't seem to do what I want (or think I want)...
I have music from older cds I've purchased and 'imported' into 'my play list' on iTunes and I want to be sure those are backed up also.

Probably just missing something simple here.... but would appreciate any and all suggestions...

Hi Bob,

You probably have used this function anyway, but there's a "BackUp to Disc" function inside iTunes Files Menu.

Or you can just copy the iTunes folder (database included) to an external HDD, if it's just for a backup it should be fine.
If you want to have your music folder on the HDD and link your iTunes database to that one you will have to change that in the preference pane.

You're making it too complicated. smile.gif

You don't need to use the Export command or any other command. In fact, you don't even need to run iTunes.

Double-click on your hard drive icon. Click on the picture of your home in the left-hand side. You'll see a folder called Music. Open it. Inside, you'll see a folder called iTunes. Drag the iTunes folder to your backup drive. That's it!

oops.gif I knew I was making it too hard......

Thanks, AGAIN, Tacit. Look.gif

Will that take 'all' my music, even that which I've added from cds?

Later...

Worked like a champ, all is well. cheer.gif  clap.gif    Thanks Look.gif
