Won't boot up.
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:33:07 AM »
I have a G3 266 OS9.1 Mac server. Won't boot up, Fan only runs. I was in sleep mode, took it out, cursor was frozen, rebooted and only fan runs. Tried many things with no luck.
Wanted to try CUDA switch but can't see it with left side cover off.
CD drawer will not open. External ZIP  drive has no power.Monitor does not light
up.No tones just some sounds then quits. Fan runs.
 Any suggestions would help. THANKS!

Thanks Kelly for the reply. I'm doing terrible but normal!.  I didn't think of the battery because the clock has always been right.Been trying all day to find out how to get to  the other side of the case. Left sides comes right off but has a big plastic air duct in the way.
I can see the 3.6v lithium battery, with a terminal at each end, snaps in.
Can't find the Cuda switch. There's just a little info on this oddball.
Thanks again , i'll keep trying.

Kelly: Fantastic, the articles covered everything but the cuda button.
I have it apart and the 3.6v battery reads 3.66v. The top housing that holds the battery in was in the bottom of the computer. Looked all over for a cuda switch, did not see one, no mention in the articles you gave me. Earlier Macs had them.
Will try a new battery anyway. Thanks a million.

Something here might help with your problem.

The CUDA button is usually a very tiny red one, often near the processor. If you find it, remove the battery, press button ONCE, replace battery (new one if poss) and boot. You may improve your chances if you wait 10 minutes before putting the battery back.
