Double entries in "Open with"
« on: March 02, 2007, 06:02:38 PM »
Sorry TeeEssers,

I  know this was posted not too long ago.

When I "Get Info" on a file, I see double entries in the "Open With" window.

I think somebody mentioned this might be caused by SuperDuper!

Would some kind soul enlighten me on how to eliminate these double entries again? I  promise I will make a note of the solution in my MacJournal data base this time.

Also, is there any way to keep this from recurring?

Thanks, Jack

Thanks Bill — You came to the rescue again.

The problem is that this solution also removes most of the valid options. Is there a way to avoid the problem in the first place?

Thanks again, Jack

For Cocktail; click the "System" icon, then the "Misc" tab, finally, the "Rebuild" button to the right of "Rebuild Launch Services database". That cleans up the "Open with..." list and I think the "Recent Items" list, also. smile.gif

Be aware that you'll also start getting messages about "This is the first time you've tried to run this app, do you know what you're doing?" messages. Don't panic, you won't have to use the apps registration code again...

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

The problem seems to have gone away! I downloaded SD! 2.1.4 and no longer have the problem. (I also deleted the files aforementioned). No more problem!

Kudos to the developers Bruce Lacy and Dave Nanian! Great software! Even better now.
