Meteorologist Now (finally) UB
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:58:33 PM »
Background:

"There's been a lot of frustration over Meteorologist recently, and that's surely indicative of how much it's appreciated and loved. So, while there's a relatively widely available fix for the broken city search affecting so many, there's still no similarly available Universal build--at least none that I'm aware of. So, I decided to stop being lazy and make a Universal build myself, also incorporating the aforementioned city search fix. It's available for download Here"

The source of the above can be found on the Source Forge Forum (Universal build of Meteorologist available).

FWIW: No problems on either of my machines.  clap.gif  cheer.gif

That chap or chapette who crafted the UB code may well have your solution. Perhaps if you post the problem. Can't hurt (me, that is). harhar.gif

Doesn't appear to be a UB by the original author. The home page still shows 1.4.4 as the newest version. I assume from that that there is no need to download the extra code since I don't have an Intel machine. I certainly like the little app! I think it is one of Harv's recommendations! clap.gif

In the post below Harv says:
QUOTE
the original author's version is 1.4.4 and the new version (the one that is UB), are both 1.4.4.
Just a result of many hands doing the work, al la OpenSource, I guess. Perhaps another few digits would make things more clear, as in: 1.4.4.00000001! Actually, the "About" screen of the original version says:
QUOTE
Fixes for 1.4.4 - Fixed city search for many U.S., Canadian, European, and Australian cities.
So there may be absolutely nothing different in the two except making it usable without Rosetta. dntknw.gif

XABD,

You're right, the original author's version is 1.4.4 and the new version (the one that is UB), are both 1.4.4. And unless one goes to the link I posted above, they will never find the new UB version. At least that's the way is now. eek2.gif

As best I can tell, unless one has an Intel machine or is having problems in accessing some cities, there is no benefit from the new UB version.

Harv.
There was some problem with the latest version and 10.4.8 that was causing problems with the connection to the weather.com site they were getting their info from.  That's why I stopped using it for a while.... it wouldn't update...

What ever 'they' did to this 'update/change' does fix that.

I did post a 'thank you' on the site and then asked about the international cities availability...

I dropped them some time ago for ForecastFox in in the Menubar under tools.
It places a weather center on the bottom bar of your browser, and with a click it will bring you to Accuweather.  smile.gif http://forecastfox.mozdev.org/

I never noticed until yesterday that my version ( 1.4.4 ) wasn't able to Add more cities. But I did find a page at SourceForge dated 3/12/2007 that mentioned the problem and the fact that the developer/coder is busy with other tasks. But there is also a <link to an AppleScript> that changes a few lines in the weather.xml file used by the app. While several people reported the fix did not work, it does for me. clap.gif

NOTE: Before running the AppleScript, make a copy of the "weather.xml" file. First, Quit the app. Find it on your drive. Select it and open it with the "Show Package Contents" item ( control-click the Meteorologist icon ). Go to the .xml file ( ...Contents/Resources/weather.xml ), select it, and use command-d to make a copy.

Now, run the AppleScript. You'll need to use your Admin password, BTW.
