OT: Keeping the Jayhawk Vibe going!
« on: March 10, 2007, 03:38:53 AM »

While the caption for this picture of KU coach Bill Self suggests he's checking the scoreboard I prefer to think he's seeking guidance from somewhere above!  We play K-State today (I think they are a small Ag-school somewhere to the west of here)!   smile.gif   eusa_dance.gif

...but too bad your coach is a golddigger. When Coack K retires, he'll leave the Jayhawks just like he left the Illini. :boo: :hiss: wink.gif

Gregg - If he's a golddigger he's in a tradition of them; after Larry and Roy!  I tend to think that he's gone to a better place now; because what the heck is an Illini anyway?

I think he needs to continue to seek guidance; so far it's working but that last game was a squeaker!

To quote myself; I think I slipped the addition in without knowing that Gregg had responded!  I reminded myself that Illini was a plural of Illinois and that they no longer had a mascot due to the retirement of Chief Illiniwek.  I think Bill Self was informed about the loss of mascot and left for a team that still had one!

My son and I think Illinois should adopt the smiley face as their mascot; Walmart stole it from the original inventor so they could probably buy it pretty cheap from him!

Not true. Illini is the name of an American Indian tribe that lived in the area.

If Mr. Selfish knew that, he was the only one. I'd rather be a proud Chief than a dorky cross-bred bird. wink.gif

I bet there'd be a law suit. Can you wear one of those?

Gregg WOW.gif I thought I'd get a rise out of you!  I was mostly being ironical but I think someone ought to use the smiley face as a mascot is see where it goes!   dntknw.gif

One factoid that is little acknowledged by KU people is that one of the early usages of the word "Jayhawk" was a reference to people who would steal firewood from homesteads; "to jayhawk" was the act.  I got this from a diary of an Englishman who settled in Kansas in the 1840's!  I don't trumpet this around Lawrence obviously!   smile.gif
