OT: Urban wildlife

Taken from the kitchen deck this morning  with my new Panasonic DMG-TZI 10x optical zoom very small camera.  Spring is on the way, signs of green showing and the wildlife showing up and being lazy.





Have not done this for a while, hope it shows up.

The green is a sure sign of Spring, but we are almost over run by deer around here, no matter what the season. Came home late one night last week and had to stop while seven doe sauntered across the street I live on...there are simply very few predators of these rather large animals in most cities/suburbs.

There's a "nature preserve" of sorts near where we live. It's really just a wooded strip along a small river. But we get all sorts of wildlife showing up anyway; deer, foxes, and other assorted four legged friends. We also see cats, even though the city has rules against letting pets roam free. Cats are sneaky enough for the owners to get away with it, I guess.

The deer are around most of the year and the back of the property faces south so we see them most days all year.  As this area grows they are becoming quite an issue, especilly with the new comers who do not understand, we are on their land not visa versa.  We do not feed them but they sure help themselves to the flowers, shrubs etc, which is becoming another issue. Planting something they DON'T eat is a challenge.

Kimmer:  The bottom picture is "momma" and the top one is her last years fawn. We see so many of them it is hard to determine any identity, and they come and go regularly.

Gregg: Re cats.  We also have quite a lot of migratory birds.  Keeping the cats away from the feeders is a challenge also. We are still rural enough that there are no laws  addressing them critters.  They can be really a hazard to the birds.
