I don't own any Apple Stock and it doesn't bother me you bought a PC for your Daughter.
I recommend going to an AppleStore so you can see them all in person.
If you can do that elsewhere, fine.
You need to get your hands on an iBook and Powerbook and see what you like.
You should also check out the e-macs and imac G4s.
Maybe you'd like one of those better.
I don't recommend you buy one there unlesss you're really smitten with something.
Mainly because all the new models there won't boot into OS 9.x
I suspect you'd be better off with an older machine that can still Boot both OSs.
Personally I think you'd be fine with something like the Refurbished iBook for $799.
