I gave up on The Dock a long time ago smile.gif

I now use DragThing.  I find it much more powerful and flexible.

Don't need an image to show you, since I keep it hidden. It's underneath the menu bar should I think of a reason to access it. dntknw.gif I don't care for stuff taking up screen space when not in use. The other three sides are available for hiding, but they can be easily hit by accident. Normally, no one goes to the top of the screen unless using the menu, thus it's less likely to accidentally to have the Dock display. clap.gif The top location is available in various utilities such as Onyx and Tinkertool. smile.gif

As for what's in it, I have no idea! Have to look at it some time and see! tongue.gif laugh.gif

I have about that many on my dock. I had more and it was too crowded, so I started using Spotlight to open things like Address Book.

Here's mine

Dan
G5 iMac running Tiger 10.4.5, dual-USB iBook 500 mhz running Panther, iBook G3 500 mhz running Panther in my daughters' room-- all connected to wireless Network.  Road Runner cable Internet from Time Warner.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does not (or rarely) use the dock. Most always, my dock remains hidden.

To access my stuff, I merely hit the F1 key (modified by MaxMenus) and from there I can navigate to any (visible) file on my computer.

That's one fine program, all right, Sir Harv! clap.gif smile.gif I just hope Apple doesn't break it when the Dock starts expanding to the other sides as mentioned in your "review" of Leopard! jawdrop.gif

But my wife does use her Dock, at least for the few items I installed on it. But it is also hidden at the bottom of her iBook screen. Different strokes...

I also hide my dock when using programs who need more screen space, such as Bryce.
And have it visible most of the time.  I do remove the ones I dont use much though, like Garage Band, (waiting for a class in that.)

We did this with our desktops a year ago, we do have some cute and unique ones.[attachment=228:attachment]

I also keep my dock hidden from view.
And just keep the ones in there that i regularly need, the other ones I just browse through using the Application folder and the Document folder.
But ever since I have ToDos I don't even use those anymore either.
Just one click on the ToDos symbol and I have all applications I need in one simple popup.
The ones you don't want to appear in ToDos you can alt-click and ToDos will ignore them.

I keep my dock hidden although I use it on a reg. basis. I do get frustrated when I accidently hit it and it pops up, but I have iClip at the top and don't want the dock up there. It's a trade off.

Tried drag thing, and could never get the hang of it. Probably need to try it again.

Can't get the site of MaxMenus to open?

Anyhow, here's my dock pic:

Hi Kimmer,
You are winning so far, you are in the lead for the most and the prettiest.

But I think that a few years ago I had one of the best desktops, I must go back and see if I can find the picture.  It was back with OS 9 when we could use those themes, trying to remember the name of the program.

I downsized dramatically from 54 items. Moved stuff to popout drawers for infrequently used stuff.

Hmm... sure looks like OS 9x to me!!!

Not a bad thing, just funny to see it look almost just like the old Apple menu!!! Might be something in that... Thinking.gif

My dock is hidden, on the bottom, fyi.

That's just on the surface, wait till you see what else it can do! In my opinion, the Dock was designed simply to show off the core animation and other candy. It does a good job of that, but it's not exteremely flexible and icons have been pushed about as far as they can go. Text is just find for lists of apps/files/folders/etc. and you can have the icons on there, if you want. Frankly, I can't remember what all the icons for all my apps look like ( especially when they get real small ), but it's pretty easy to read the label! laugh.gif But some people like them and even use icon view in the Finder. To each his own. smile.gif
