The BIG Announcement is here!!  We will shut down for some time on May 15 to upgrade the software.
  1. No, I don't know what time
  2. No, I don't know how long
  3. No, I don't know if everything will run smoothly
  4. No, I don't know if the new version of the software is backwards compatible
  5. Yes, there will be new skins
  6. Yes, we will have to reset everyone back to the default skin
  7. Yes, you will have to tweak your board preferences once we come back on line
  8. Yes, there are a lot of new features
  9. No, we won't use them all
  10. I don't know
  11. I don't know
  12. I don't know
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

May 15 is my wife's birthday. She will be oh so happy that at least part of the internet is down that day. If the entire internet were to go down permanently, she would consider that the most perfect birthday gift of all!

But I do love her (and have done so for nearly 54 years), and I really do spend more time with her than with the internet.

Hope everything goes well with the update. And thanks to all the admins for all you do to make TS my favorite site!

Joe

Jennie,

All your hard work is much appreciated in this little corner of the world! It will be a small sacrifice for us to do without TS for a few hours, and I hope it all goes well without too many glitches!!!

I have JUST gotta learn to speak in the imperative.  It's all of us that make techsurvivors what it is.  Much as I love getting the strokes, we must acknowledge that  each person on the exec board, and EACH member adds to us.

So, personally, from me to you thanx.gif and from the Admin, a hugemoungous thanx.gif  Keep up the good work!

No, I don't know what time

When you figure out what time, let us know. Like maybe a signal such as blocking access to the board. wink.gif

No, I don't know how long

Whenever you determine when the board will be up again, let us know by allowing access. A little post would be a good way. wink2.gif

How to know when the new site is ready:
You'll know the new software and the forums are available when you go to the site and it comes up on your browser. If it don't, it ain't.

And the United States = The Banana system

Selection of skins for the new software is a bit limited just now. In time more will be developed and I'll add them to the list. Initially we will have 6 beyond the default to choose from but those of you using OS 9 may have fewer that will work. You may be only able to use the default as the skin selector doesn't work in many cases.

I tested Netscape 4.7 and it is useless on the new software. IE is usable with some limitations and iCab is OK though none are perfect.  I didn't try any other OS 9 browsers so if you are using something else and encounter difficulty the best thing would be to email one of the admins. Not sure there is much we could do about it though. Much of the newer software is geared to browsers from this century.

I think that the writing on the wall with OS 9 and browsers was the single most compelling reason to go to OS 10.x a few years ago when I did. I was already having trouble seeing content on some sites, and my own website, primitive as it is, was already looking different in different OS 9 browsers.

Gregg, we're going to have to drag you kicking and screaming into the OS X universe!!! eek2.gif
