Apples to Apples Comparison
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:41:42 AM »
This is in the current issue of Consumer Reports.

The monitor on the left is an Apple III monitor.

Did any of you have/use an Apple I, II or III? My first Mac was a 512Ke.
Cheers, Tom

My first Mac was a "Fat Mac" 1986.  I never even saw the Apple l, ll, or lll until last year.  I now have a complete Apple lle set up, drives (2), monitor, Imagewriter, all set up and working (dontated for the cause).  Long story, but the short version is I volunteered to  convert some 5.25 inch floppies to something that could be used in todays world.  It took me the better part of a year to secure the necessary software, learn how to use it (and the lle itself) to do the job. Boy howdy it is a different world than what I cut my teeth on. Mac, Mac, Mac.

There is still a very large comunity out there that still uses those old jobbers.  Mostly they are gamers. If there is anyone interested (very doubtfull) I can sure point them to half a dozen sites where software, parts, forums etc can be found.

Of course, right after I got rid of a TRS-80. I then used a ][e ( with two 140k external floppies that replaced the cassette tape drive! ), ][c ( a portable model )!

No, but that monitor looks similar to the DOS box monster I worked on in 1972. wink.gif

My first Mac was an LC: a 40 MB HD and 4 MB of RAM that we bumped up to 8, and eventually added something that made the LC think it was 10 mgs. Ohhhh ... I was zipping. biggrin.gif
