Jeez Mayo, such a youthful attitude, I would have taken you for a late 20 year-old!
My sister, by the way, has signed up for private Mac lessons, she just hasn't found the time to start with them yet. A lot on her plate these days, not the least of which is still recovering from last year's major health crisis (3 operations in less than 6 months).
Mayo, I understand your frustration quite well. And I appreciate that you made sure to say that my sister was not a direct target of your remarks.
And I appreciate the history lesson from both you and Paddy, we all had to start somewhere!!!
I actually think she has become terrorized by her PC experience, and has developed a whole host of bad habits through her experience in Windoze. She's a fabulous musician, quite intelligent, but her PC has always been an Achilles heel for her. I work in both environments, and I think once she figures out how inutuitive the Mac platform is, she'll be just fine. She just gets frustrated quickly sometimes with some computer problems, again I think, due to PC brainwashing and torture
.
Paddy, we went through both utilities, no difference, would not show up in either Airport Admin Utility or Setup Assistant. And I asked her what she saw in the Utilities folder, and it was identical to what I was looking at, we are both in 10.4.9.
And that's what I have decided is best for now, just letting it work, since it is, without encryption, because Mayo is dead-on with his statement:

I missed that your sister is able to get online and that you only want to enable network encryption. I think that the path of least resistance would be to let it go for now and configure it next time you visit, or hire a local Mac tech support person to configure the base station. Enabling network encryption doesn't always go smoothly and attempting to do it via long distance could cause more problems than it solves.
And I told her to stop, got her to quit both of these utilities (yes, running one at a time) and she's still happily online and at very good speed for the old Snow!
One thing I have learned is when to say when most of the time, and as long as she's online with it, I will wait until I go to visit, or maybe she'll be able to discuss the problem with her Mac teacher when she goes.
TTFN,
CK
