That's cool. I'm always seeing images in patterns such as material, tiles, even the grout!

This could start a new game for locals directing tourists - "follow the first bit of the hen, change to the elephant and the stag before taking the bald eagle to the bottlenose whale...."  Devilish2.gif

Around here, the traffic folks are always talking about "the Plain (or Plane?) Field curve when reporting on the expressways. I lived here for 20 years before finding out where it was. My two candidates were both wrong. It was only after reading a newspaper column from a local historian recently that I was enlightened.

Turns out that there was a delay in building the expressway to the south of downtown because of property that could not be aquired. So, it was decided to take a sharp turn to the right, in the southbound direction, as it was being constructed. They took another sharp turn to the left when they got to a corridor that allowed them to continue south. The street that was vacated for several blocks in the east-west direction was Plainfield Street.

Having lived on the north side all these years, I never had reason to exit the expressway in that part of town, and had never heard of Plainfield Street. But for 20 years, I listened in vain to traffic reporters for someone to give the slightest clue where this curve (turns out, curves) might be. They never have.

You're also just supposed to know that Teutonia Street is pronounced "Ty-tone-ya". Go figure. dntknw.gif

As far as using the"tranimals" for directions, it sure would take a mega brochure to print them all for quick reference!

Part of the beauty of the London Underground is that they've had so many years to perfect the style and design. And the 'map' is everywhere down there! At least two places in every car and many places in each stop. No need to carry a map, and the design makes it easy to see where you'll be exiting/changing lines. Probably the oldest and largest transportation system around. Paris might come close to the complexity.

It's simply amazing that so many 'animals' could come from that 'map'! clap.gif Some one must have a lot of time on their hands! smile.gif
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

A history of the London Underground map, designed by Harry Beck and based on electrical circuit diagrams. He reasoned that if you are under the city it doesn't matter about geographical accuracy, purely how the stations are situated in relation to each other. The map is basically the same as the one he produced in 1933! And, I read in one of the Google finds, Beck also designed the map for the Paris Metro.

Quite a sense of humor for such a logical bloke to hide all those animals in his diagram. wink.gif
