New file system with Leopard?

Could be one of those 'secret improvements' for Leopard...

Note in the comments section that he ammended the text to Apple using the new filesystem in a future version of X, not necessary Leopard.

There is something like ZFS in the newer Novell versions.  Well, being Linux at the root perhaps it is ZFS!  Being a cautious gent myself I wonder if spreading one's "volume" across several hard drives might not be a mistake at the point when one of the drives fails; maybe if you also do stripping or something but I think that would require much larger drives to accomplish the amount of storage needed!   Thinking.gif

Ok, this is way over my head. Actually, it's above and beyond what I need to know or care to know. So, after admittedly just barely skimming the article to get that HFS+ is being replaced - and I only know very little about that - I have (for the moment) only one question:

Will this affect the files created in my (new) faithful AppleWorks?

I can convert to Word for Mac at any time, but I'm not eager to do so.

gunug....

This is definitely above my head, but the little I have heard about ZFS leads me to believe that if you have a drive failure it will be rebuilt.  I have heard that it should be more reliable than a RAID-5 setup.

Jim's helpful response notwithstanding, I'm still wondering....

I'm aware that this shift may have absolutely nothing to do with my concern, but that doesn't make it a "stupid question" assure.gif

Oops! Sorry to all, especially Gregg, for my poor taste in humor coming across in a demeaning manner. fool.gif As you yourself have said often, there ain't no stoopid questions, especially at TS! Certainly stoopid computers but not questions. So let's kiss.gif and make up?

In the long term, I don't think you have to worry about file compatibility when you start using Leopard.
