First Meeting of TeeEss' Ohio Caucus, so to speak
« on: June 09, 2007, 03:59:00 PM »
12:30p EDT, Monday, July 9, 2007 @ Dutch Valley Restaurant, Sugarcreek, Ohio . . . deep in Amish Country . . . 1343 Old Route 39 NE Sugarcreek, OH 44681

Attendees (at present) will be . . .
  1. Dick Miller
  2. Dolphin
  3. JackW
  4. RHPConsult
The site's site . . . is HERE

This is not your "usual" professional conclave, folks. No Ritz-Carlton or Waldorf in Sugarcreek. This is real down-home O-HI-O, in the beautiful hills of Holmes County.

I might add that there is a Carlisle Inn on the property and pretty new.

You can get info on it on the left side of RHP's link above. Click on the Carlisle Inn link. No, not a Ritz Carlton, but very nice, with an Amish flavor.

Click it here: http://www.dhgroup.com/en/sc/sc-carlisle-inn.php

This restaurant and Inn are in the heart of Amish country with horse-drawn buggies and men with beards and suspenders. And the ladies wear bonnets and dresses, never jeans.

There are several grocery stores west of the restaurant that offer the old style products, including excellent cheeses made by the Amish in the area.

I don't know how long this lifestyle will last. "Civilization" is creeping in. And that's too bad, because these Amish and Mennonites really live the close-to-nature and the land.

You can pick up area maps and brochures at the restaurant and Inn.

Come one, come all! Bring your spouses or other guests. I am going to talk my wife into coming.

I will reserve table(s) for us if I know how many are coming.

How about you, Harv, and you Xabd? And you ladies of TS?

Come on over and enjoy the lifestyle while you still can!

The more the merrier!

- Jack

That's farther than my wife usually lets me go, without adult supervision! laugh.gif And see will be between trips to two conventions, doubt she'll be interested in accompanying me. Still, if I can avoid getting too many "Honey do's" and save enough money for gas and lodging...

Thanks for letting us know, Frances.

But didn't someone post sometime ago that Google Maps plotted a "quick" swim accross the North Atlantic as part of giving directions from Labrador/Newfoundland to Europe. Perhaps you could adapt those, when you're feeling better.

The Amish only use horses in their splendid agricultural endeavors. You'd probably enjoy that.

Sorry to miss it. I'll be concluding my vacation (in Illinois and Indiana) on the 7th. Well, on the 8th if you count the 50th anniversary dinner for my in-laws in northern Illinois. Ya'll have a good time, and send photos. photo.gif

Gregg,

That should give you enough time to swing on over here at the end of your vacation.

Ooh, sounds like fun!

But we'll be celebrating Dad's (Bobun here at TS) birthday (89) that day.

We will be thinking of you.  Take lots of pictures.  salute.gif

Man, I wish I could be there for that; could you Fed-Ex some dessert to me?

I wish. The dinner is on Sunday, and I go back to work on Monday.

Sugarcreek is a beautiful spot in old Ohio... I grew up in Yellow Springs, not too far down the road.

Can't make it, too busy with concerts and work this summer, but I think we should have an East Coast version of this somewhere!!!

How's the leg Frances? Is that why you won't swim over? whistling.gif

Best,
