This is a nice footnote to my recent problem which Krissel and others solved for me. This is a person, outside this forum, who was also trying to help me. When I got my problem solved I wrote to him to explain how things went. He just wrote to me with the following (he knows much more about computers than I do):
"So strange thing.... I tried to help you but inadvertently you helped
me to help a friend. My friends imac was also not turning on
properly, as I told you before I had come to the conclusion that his
PAV board was shot. I did manage to get his imac to turn back on and
I too had tried to reset the pram. However, I was using the wrong
keys. I was using the p and m verses p and r. Each time we unplugged
his imac it would take up to 10 time plus to restart it. I also found
out that if the l.e.d. light was not centered inside of the power
button the imac would not start. So I took it apart and centered the
l.e.d. light. Still nothing. After reading your return message I used
the p and r keys along with the command-option and now the imac turns
on even after being unplugged! Yea !!!!!!!!!! So, I just wanted to
say thanks for the valuable info and I hope that things continue to
work out for you as well. I know my friend was very happy tonight to
get his computer from me, take it home, plugit in and HAVE IT WORK.
Thanks so MUCH!!"
Hopefully all you need do is reset the PRAM and NVRAM.
