I bit the bullet and became an early adopter when I bought the new 17" 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro three days after it was announced. I had a perfectly workable Al 15" G4 laptop but I just received an appointment at a university in Chicago as a visiting professor for the Fall 2007-2008 semester. I plan to use it as desktop system and thus will be able to move it between our apartment and my office at the university. My only problem is finding an adequate dock that will allow me, with an external keyboard to use it comfortably, If anyone has any ideas let me know.

By the way, if anyone is interested in a Material Science/So;id state physics MS or PHD, let me know. We are always interested in finding grad students.

Let me say it is a beauty and epitomizes Apple at the top of its game. It has plenty of ports and I got it with 2 GB of memory and a 160 GB HD. It also has the 2 layer superdrive.

Since it connects to the Internet via my Airport LAN, it is a little slow when downloading files, etc. However, compared to my old PPC G4 (1.4 GHz) it is mighty fast. Surprisingly, it was not that expensive compared to its capability and power. Also the magnetic power cord coupler is quite good and I deliberately (after putting a pillow on the floor) tried to yank on the cord, hard and try to have it fall off a 30" table. The cord came off and the laptop didn't budge!

Thanks sandbox or should I call you"V"? The Bookendz dock looks good although a bit pricey. I was hoping to find one that would mount the laptop such that the keyboard and internal "mouse" were covered . Then I could use n external keyboard and mouse placed in a position lower than the standard desk. The latter is too high for comfort.

Tom, I don’t know of any other option in a station attachment. I use a large screen, Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my lid close to about 4 inches, when a small screen just won’t do.

For your application a Bluetooth setup would let you place the keyboard & mouse anywhere. You could then cut the side off your wife’s favorite 18” pan, slide in over the keyboard and make a bridge or card table. wink.gif A docking station isn’t really an answer if all you need is a location alteration.

PS don’t tell Mrs. Moose I sent you to the pan-tree….. biggrin.gif
