Passwords,,,,,arggghhhhh
« on: June 18, 2007, 08:26:02 PM »
Has anybody used this, or tried it out, or at least read the review and thought it might be something useful for us.

I have my Macs save all my user names and passwords, and log in to these sites as quickly and easily as possible.  I just hate to go thru my little password booklet or my Keychain when I need to log in quickly to a forum or classroom or something.
I realize that if these Macs were in an office that we would not do this, but they are here at home.  And the banking ones are the only ones that we do have to type the password in each and every time.  TS for example is the way I prefer to do this, Im always logged in.
So, would this little program make things easier, or just one more pain in the neck thing to remember?
Thanks,
Jane

Absolutely, positively and certainly. I posted about it some weeks ago. It's a great time saver, excellent support, active user group and attentive developers. Other than that, it's a good investment! :-) And the passwords it generates are more secure than any you could dream up yourself! When you get to a sign in page you just click a small icon ( usually next to the browsers 'location:' text box ) and iPassword offers you the password you set up for the page, if you have so directed, it will also press the 'return' key for you, also! smile.gif All I have to do now is return to the hundreds of sites where I used exactly the same password! blush-anim-cl.gif laugh.gif

Oh this sounds great, it would be easier and quicker.  The way Ive got things set up now, most sites are just continuously logged in.  But the banking sites and stuff where we are required to log in each time, would be excellent.
So today, I am going to read their site carefully and most likely purchase it.
Thank you!
Jane

IAWJ about using the same password for everything. But sometimes that won't work. I use variations on three completely different ones, so I only have six. So far, I haven't needed such an application to help me manage them.

So, now I'm going to be warned that I need a unique password for everything.

Actually, the user name is often frought with more angst, because the one you want is unavailable, or does not meet the criteria. I find those more difficult to remember.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Actually I do use variations of similar passwords too. And some are written in an oddly named folder in my document folder, and in a little notebook, as well as another notebook we keep in our safe.
Ive not got anything to protect except our banking sites and the mutual fund and brokerage site stuff, but its more for me, if I forget them or want to change something.
Its a nuisance, but if anybody ever stole one of my computers, it would indeed be protection.  One of our kids did have a laptop stolen, but had no sensitive info on it.
This is an interesting topic.

Another big advantage of iPassword is it's form filling abilities. Many browsers can do this but they don't keep that info in a secure manner.

Ive sort of got my own system too, but it leaves a bit to be desired.
So perhaps a combo would be good, I probably will give this a try on one Mac anyway.
