After making SuperDuper backups (just in case), I installed the Combo updater on both my PPC and Intel machines.

Repairing Permissions after the installs indicated a few corrections, but DiskWarrior noted no problems.

TinkerTool System subsequently identified 87.7 MB of (unwanted) localizations that were available for deleting.

So far, all is normal. clap.gif

Well, or so I think...

It may seem somewhat funny that I just upgraded my office system to 10.4.9 today!  smile.gif

Did 2 of our Macs last night, and this morning everything is fine.
Thanks for bringing 10.4.10 to our attention.

Did you put that in the "We need some humor" thread? wink.gif

Does the ever higher "update number" signify a fundamental quality failure of the "original" OS?
...or just a slow as molasses process for the big "upgrade" to the next "chapter"?
(I suppose there are "official" terms that I'm not aware of for these software revisions>)

As usual with these upgrades, many are reporting problems. There's still a good procedure for making updates at MFI today, it will probably get removed well before the end of the month, of course.

Despite comments here that the sound problems of .9 have been fixed, there are quite a few complaining about "pops", "crackles" and poor equalization curves after updating to .10.

BTW, the changes listed in this thread are for intel-based machines. The PPC improvements are:
Mounting and unmounting external USB devices
Support for 3rd party software applications
    Security updates

I did the update via software update last night. The only issue I noticed is a familiar one I've seen after updates. There was a "2nd restart" followed by a long "pinwheel" followed by a long "blue screen." (Long enough to raise my stress level a bit.) Just as I was starting to wonder if I had a big problem, the login screen quickly appeared. I repaired permissions (again-as I had done before the update) and since then it's been perfect.

BTW, I took a page out of pendragon's book and downloaded a trial copy of TinkerTool System. I was able to remove a few hundred MBs of unwanted localizations! (Thanks Harv!) thumbup.gif

I used the stand alone installer to upgrade my PPC, and so far, no problems.  I always repair permissions after any upgrade or installation.

I did this upgrade to 10.4.10 on both our Tiger Macs, not a problem,

But did see the Safari upgrade for 10.3.9, which this Mac is, and I downloaded it and it wouldnt install, I got a message when I got to the
point where I highlight the hard drive, and it said that this particular Mac could not take this Safari upgrade.
But no info as to why, so I quit the installer.
I am wondering if its important, and if I cannot use it, thats not good. Or is it something that hardly anybody would ever encounter.
But I see thats it malicious web sites which I certainly would not have any contact with?  I really hope anyway.
Any more info on this?
Thanks,
jane

Jane,

I’m a bit (well, a big bit) confused. Since you installed 10.4.10, a 10.3.9 upgrade would only be regressive (not an update) besides which, I don’t think it would or should work. And apparently it doesn’t.

Since you installed 10.4.10, you have the most recent Safari, v2.0.4 (419.3), unless of course, you’re trying to install the Safari Beta v3.0.2. FWIW, many have had problems with this beta, some quite serious, so I don’t recommend it.

Please provide the link, or more data, on what it is you’re trying to install.

I don't mean to be abrupt, I just don't understand what you want upgraded/installed.
