Super Duper, what next?
« on: June 20, 2007, 08:43:33 PM »
Ive got some new stuff that I would like to copy and save to my external HD, so I opened Super Duper, and was hoping that I could copy the new stuff over to my external HD with the hope of not re-copying the old stuff or having to erase.  As that is what I always did when I did this without software.
So this is not going to be.
Here is a screenshot of what it wants me to do first,
Erase the whole thing, I assumed from the instructions that Super Duper would seek out what was already there, and just copy the new additions?
Please let me know how to do this, as this is the whole darn purpose that I bought this software, so that I would not have to sort out this stuff any more.
New from old.
Thanks,
Jane

Jane;

I am assumig that you have the 'paid' version of SD!...

After the 1st time you back up with SD!... go to the 'options' button and in there in the "During Copy" dropdown
select "Smart Update" option.  This will, on subsequent backups, take only the 'new stuff' and copy it to your external backup.

But initially SD! has to make a 'full' save to your external.

Hi Bob,
Oh, yes the paid version I have. And Ive already made the original backup.
So I will follow your instructions exactly,  Thank you for steering me to Smart Update.
Its working fine, its a wonder that they dont make that more plain for new customers.

Thank you, TS to the rescue as usual!
Jane

(I also did the 10.4.10 update on the 2 newest Macs here, and found that Onyx needed to be updated too, did that, repaired permissions and did the scripts too.  And also did that on this older 10.3.9 machine the Soccar Ball iMac.  Its my communication machine which Ive not brought up to Tiger yet.  I do have the Tiger disks which I bought to Tiger-ize my older tower machine for one of our kids.  I KNOW I should do this one soon.
Lovely balmy night tonight, not chilly and windy as usual, should have taken a walk to the beach, but chose to upgrade and maintenance these 3 Macs.  Yes, thats more important, I can always walk to the beach early tomorrow morning.)
