Maybe so, maybe no. It depends on the power needs of the drive. If it doesn't come with its own 'brick', it will try to use USB for its power. Those types of hardware seldom work on the keyboard ports, they are probably hardwired to supply only minimal current. But you can still use the ports on the 'tower', of course. If they are full, you can usually find a powered USB hub fairly cheaply. smile.gif

I don't find Spotlight too much help for finding 'paths'. But you can still use 'command-f' while in Finder and do your searches that way. It even allows increased types of searches ( folders, names, types, creators, etc. ) and you can include more than one of those criteria at the same time. When you 'find' something with that method, clicking on it will display the full path to it in the bottom of the window. smile.gif

There are other apps that can find those hidden files that the OS doesn't want you to mess with, but they are usually slightly slower than Spotlight. <Easy Find> is a very easy ( doh.gif ) app that I sometimes use. And the price is right! smile.gif

I agree with ABD that the CD reader will probably not work connected to the keyboard. It is only for very low power items like mice. I plugged a small USB SD card reader into the keyboard on my Dad's eMac and it refused to work telling me it required more power. So if one of those thumb drives won't work, I doubt a CD reader would.

It would be worth it to you to buy a powered USB hub for future use. They aren't very expensive.

The motors on a most CD-ROM drives pull a lot of amps and it probably wouldn't be practical to sell them without power so I'd be willing to bet that if you buy one it will have a little wall-wart anyway.  If you find one without power you should get a powered USB hub to avoid damage to the ports on the MAC (this has happened at my school district on a G5 iMAC).
