What wood you do?

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

I'd be kind of interested in the first "actual" car and the T-Bears are cute!  Lots of time has gone by since I had woodshop!

My Dad used to do lots of woodworking. In fact, in a couple of months, I'm going to visit him and I've set my main task as the big job of straightening up his wood shop (a two car garage with 2 additions on the back).

It's amazing what can be done with wood, and the right tools.

I guess I should explain my fascination with wood, or I guess I want to explain.  My first dearly beloved is a bas relief wood carver.  When he and I were together, we were always too broke to keep the pieces I liked/wanted/craved.  So I have learned to enjoy a good craftsman when I see one.

Maybe there's pictures of the one.....  found one

Jen, your previous 'beloved' does some nice work. If you come across any other examples, please post them.  smile.gif

I posted some of Livio de Marchi's work here before. Can't remember when that was...I looked in the 2006 archives (about 18 pages) and couldn't find it. The photos may not show up anyhow, because I do believe I've deleted them from wherever I placed them. He does some fantastic work though for sure.

Thanks for the link Jennnie!

Thank you. Love that car!!!

I used to love working in wood a long time before I became a jeweler. I always left a mess on my father's workbench. I couldn't help it; there was just so much sawdust.

w/re to wood these days, I use driftwood to make little bas-reliefs. As far as decorating goes, I've become a collector of bamboo (cellulose too, after all) to the extent that my apartment looks kinda like a hut in the South Seas.

I've seen some really amazing things made from bamboo. A year or so someone came up with a bamboo car, and a bamboo bicycle, which seems only logical. There is some extreme silliness too. Take a look at "bamboo craziness."

This thread is making me feel very silly, which is the preferred state given my generally stressful life these days. I just thought of something "woody" that made me smile: A Mad Magazine "article" about a woman who had made her house entirely from sandpapered peach pits.

The idea of that can't be beat for silliness. I could never forget about it, even after all these years. It's inconceivable that there could be something more ridiculous. It still makes me smile biggrin.gif

Cheers,
Francine

Hmm...more about working with peach pits. Some pretty serious stuff here.

I apologize if I have offended any peach-pit craftsmen.

That peach pit carving made me think of a news story we saw on TV recently. This guy was carving things (out of what, I can't recall) so tiny that you needed a microscope (not just a magnifying glass) to see them. The detail was incredible. We saw it on ABC News, so maybe their web site has the story if anyone is interested and has the time to search.
