Who even names these things?  I have to tell my tale of how "Flossie" damaged ........ Plus it kept my teeth plaque free.  doh.gif

Thanks SB & Ganug, we're all keeping a close eye on it.  At this point it is scheduled to pass just south of us tomorrow through thursday and is weakening.  But, we have seen these change at any moment.  As the case with Hurricane Iniki back in 1992.

Already making plans to go bodysurfing if all forecasts stay the same.   biggrin.gif

29 feet above MLLW ….WoW that’s serious!!

QUOTE
A maximum of 227 MPH was reported from the Navy radar site at Makaha Ridge. This has been depicted as an anomaly due to improper instrument calibration; therefore unrealistic. I do not entirely agree with that. It may be possible to achieve such wind speeds from funneling (venturi) effects. The research by Dr. Fujita indicates that anomalous winds such as severe short lived downdrafts occur with some frequency. However, this may be an anomaly localized in a few areas.

I agree, there were power poles on Cutler Ridge Florida rated at 230 mph that were snapped off like toothpicks during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Andrew they have no accurate data because all the data centers were destroyed, even the ones on the military base.

Have a good time surfing!! wink.gif

Never got out to the beach, but, still, it was peaceful.  House is fine, Gregg, thanks.

The storm approached as a catagory 4, but, was downgraded to a 2 as it approached the Big Island.  As it was about to touch land it was furthermore downgraded to a 1 and when it was landing it fizzled to a tropical storm.  Even that for the most part lost all it's strength and a whole lot of moisture.  Thus, it didn't even rain as much as was predicted.  As the storm lost it's fizzle fast it turned more south westerly and moved away from land.

So, yesterday was a very peaceful day here on Oahu, some cloud cover and a nice 25 mph tradewinds.  But, that is about that.  Thank God.

And now you are an official member of the "I hate TWC" club.  When will the "news channels" quit MAKING news and start reporting it?
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Jen, your not one of them blame the weather channel first crowd, are ya?  toothgrin.gif

Hurricane Dean will boost our fuel bill 6-7% even if TWC isn't looking, so ignore TWC and watch Wall Street Week to see which way the wind blows. wink.gif

My youngest is called Flossie and she is some force!

Dear little girl (11 going on 40!) with all the subtlety of a brick.  I think they named her well.

My baby!
