Check for your Driver's License and remove it!
« on: September 26, 2007, 07:28:48 PM »
I definitely removed mine. I suggest you all do the same. Now you can see anyone's Driver's License on the Internet, including your own! I just searched for mine and there it was...picture and all!

Thanks Homeland Security! Go to the web site, and check it out. It's unbelievable!!! Just enter your name, city and state to see if yours is on file. After your license comes on the screen, click the box marked "Please Remove". This will remove it from public viewing, but not from law enforcement.

Please notify all your friends so they can protect themselves, too. Believe me they will thank you for it.
Cheers, Tom

Thanks. I started to enter my info after reading the first post, then thought I'd better come back and see if anyone else had the same suspicion that was creeping over me. If this is a scam, someone should find a "snopes-like" link and perhaps Tom could add it to the initial post.

At the risk of spoiling the joke, here is the <Snopes info about that site>.

As far as I know, a "cookie" will only include information about you that you enter in a page. This site would already have the info it would write to a cookie, it would not, then, be available to any other site via that cookie. Nor would they have 'harvested' your info from that cookie since they had to have it, via your typing it in, in order to even write/create the cookie. wallbash.gif

Cookies are more likely to contain information about your use of a site and even passwords you might have used to keep you logged in. Certainly info about you can be in a cookie, but it is usually only the site that creates the cookie that can even find it on your drive. So, if you don't want your own info in a cookie or a sites database, don't provide it. doh.gif You shouldn't be typing in personal info in a site you don't trust, anyway. rolleyes.gif

In this case, it's a prank that's been around for several years. And you don't even have to enter your own info, you'll get the same results, no matter what you enter. rofl.gif
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Ok, Tom... so did the site harvest that "evil rainbow carrot top" photo that's on your driver's license???

From the Snopes article...this is scary for those who live in the states that allow such searches.

http://www.publicdata.com/

I don't think I'd feel very comfortable if I were in one of the states that lets anyone with a credit card have access to this type of information.

This is really interesting, as the guy who started publicdata is Vince Cate, and he lives in Anguilla. We got to know him when we stayed there.  He since has sold the business and its moved to Texas, or thats what he was planning last year. He is moving on, or I should say, he has moved on to ecological oceanographic research. Long story, my husband knows the details. Vince is one amazing person, full of innovative ideas.  Just Google him and you will see some info, not up to date though.  He married the daughter of the person who owns the apartment(Millie's Inn) we stay at, live next door too.
He told us that nobody will ever get this info out of MA.  He used this business to finance some of his better ideas, which have not been put up on the web as yet.  Will probably see them again this year, if we go back to Anguilla, and will be hearing what his new ideas are.
See in the picture here, where my husband took the picture is of the site where Vince and Samantha are building their new house. And the 4 unit apartment building in the left center is his mother-in-laws inn where we always stay.
