Jane, the best prices that I have found for AppleCare are at the L A Computer Company Web site.  Their prices are the equivalent of the educational discounts available only to students and educators.  In the past three years I have been unable to find any other retailer with comparable prices.

Thanks for the heads up, Mayo. Mine was to ship on Friday. I figure it will arrive on Tuesday when I'm gone. LOL! I opted for a green iPod. Sneakers said, "Sell it." -- but I think I might keep it and enjoy it.

Now the problem of the on again, off again fan is solved. I'll miss my faithful, trusty G4, but this should be a grand adventure. Thanks for xABD's question here, I'm comfortable with the whole change over. I will eventually order some more ram - but I think I'll give Sneakers credit card a chance to cool off first. toothgrin.gif

Kimmer:

Congratulations.   toothgrin.gif

I never had an iPod until I got my iPhone. Now I know what everyone's been talking about!  thumbup.gif

PS: I estimate you'll miss your "faithful, trusty G4" ohh . . . . about 5 minutes.

Hey Kimmer, that's great!   thumbup.gif  I'm happy that at least one other TSer got in on the deal. I resisted posting about it on MacNN because I wanted to keep it "in the family" so to speak...   Devilish2.gif

Thanks for keeping it "in the family". I got more of a run around from UofO then you did, but I managed to get through it. I even learned where to send/receive FAXes in this little town. wink.gif

I'm excited. That's probably why I'm not yet asleep and am instead, setting things up for a smooth transition (turning off and dumping things I don't use and don't want to transfer).

I'm going to "limp along" with my G4 iBook for a while longer, but wow jawdrop.gif Mayo, timing is everything!

My warranty on my iBook expires next month, and I was going to get AppleCare anyway!  WOW.gif That's a great price! I'll order it for my daughter's MacBook Pro as well!

Yes, they aren't very keen about shipping... I live close enough to Eugene ( 2.5 hours or so one-way) that I would have driven there to pick it up, but I didn't say that to the salesperson... The actual shipping is handled in their warehouse so it's more of a psychological thing on the part of some salespeople.

The faxing requirement is definitely different than the usual mail-order company, but then again the U of O Bookstore isn't a normal mail-order retailer. They could easily enact a policy of in-store sales only. So keeping this in mind I am Very Nice to the salespeople (like I always endeavor to do anyway...), I get the name of the salesperson I work with (his/her name is also on the paperwork) and I get in touch after I receive the computer and let them know how much I appreciate it and their efforts on my behalf. It's the least I can do when I am saving over $1000 on a computer purchase.

Yes, they aren't very keen about shipping.

The run around I got was that Fred said he had to send me all the stuff as a FAX before we could proceed, so I ran around finding out who had a FAX and would open after 4:30pm ... called back to give Fred the number, he was busy so I got Brian who said "No, you have to talk to accting before I can FAX anything." So he transferred me. Accting said, "NO. We take your info, approve the sale and then we FAX the info to Brian, who will complete the paperwork and send it to shipping." LOL! I gave the lady in accting all my info, and then asked to be transferred back to Brian. I told him what she'd said and he said he still needed all the info from me and had to FAX me stuff. So I went through it all *again* (glad the battery on my cell phone was fully charged) biggrin.gif  Finally, Brian said he would FAX me this approval sheet. Which he did 30 min. later. The place that did the FAXing for us is a mart with fresh espresso and the owners are friends, so we sat and chatted and sipped coffee and waited. I filled out the papers, correcting the spelling of my town, and FAXed it all back. Brian called me back, said he had the stuff and would get the info to the shipping guy and it would go out on Friday.

Yup. I never lost my temper - even after the 4th phone call. LOL! I did thank Brian for all his help and his patience. I'd not thought about calling him to thank him after it arrives, but I'll try to do that next week.

Thanks again for the heads up!

A tip that my salesperson gave me: call just before you fax to them and let your salesperson know it's coming so that your fax doesn't get lost in the shuffle. I then call after it is sent to make sure that it got to the intended person. (I don't want the last Mac sold to someone else because my paperwork got lost!) Of course, it is all a lot easier if you have your own fax machine like I do!

As observed earlier, your regret(s) for your trusty old whatever will last about as long the set-up time, i.e. a little slower than the blink of an eye, but not much.    thumbup.gif

Kim, apparently our new iMacs qualify for the $9.95 Leopard upgrade price (thanks to bil207 for his post). I checked the list of qualifying Macs and the 2.16Ghz 24" iMac is on it.

I tried using the online form but No Dice... so I am using the PDF form instead. It took less than five minutes to complete and fax to Apple.  You can also snail mail the form and a copy of your receipt.

Here is the link at Apple.com.
