Apple Support's attitude towards discontinued iPods
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:39:58 PM »
So i'm on the phone with Apple Support right now regarding my iPod Photo. Its hard drive died and i need a replacement.

I tell them my iPod's serial number, and they see it is an iPod Photo. Since it is an iPod Photo that i purchased refurbished in July of 2006, Apple immediately thinks that "Oh this iPod is out of warranty already," since the iPod model was discontinued in Feb. 2005.

Yea... so i already got the iPod Photo replaced once, and they sent me another one. Apple failed [ONCE AGAIN] to move my AppleCare over from my original iPod to a replacement iPod, so instead of a call that would have taken 10 minutes, i've been on the phone with them for over an hour!

Basically the point of this whole story is how Apple immediately tried to either squeeze some cash out of me (which is a funny thing because at the end of the call when he was giving me my dispatch and repair number, he asked me for my credit card, and i'm like NO! it's under applecare) or get me off the phone and into the apple store to buy a new iPod because they immediately thought my product was out of warranty.

Yea... ok... this story was pointless...
This account isn't hacked...
I'm actually back from hiatus (and its about darn time too)!

Well, it might be consistent with what I read about in this recent article. Of course, it was found at msnbc.com, so there may be a bit of anti-Apple bias there--or not. (It's been awhile since I've had to use Apple Support--especially over the phone. My last several experiences with support at the Apple Store were great.)

A couple of IMacs, an iPad, a bunch of iPhones...two of which don’t live here, but I still pay for. Oh yeah, wife, daughters, and yes—a grandson!

As Rob said, MSNBC is not the place for positive Apple news. wink.gif

Note the three articles at the bottom of the page. All negative.

And in the article it quotes a woman who said she plunked down $4000 for an iMac. Wow. Did it have a gold plated keyboard? huh.gif

The latest Consumer Reports gives Apple top scores in its support.

But that doesn't mean everyone gets what they expect when they have a problem. But just talking to someone who you can understand must be a good thing.

I think it was in U.S. News that I just read about the success Apple is finally having in getting consumers to plop down a little more green for the "bling" of Mac ownership. It's fashion more than function, but I'm sure Apple will take it any way it can get it.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.
