Target mode questions
« on: November 26, 2007, 06:19:26 PM »
It's a great feeling now that I have given up on Leopard. Since I neglected to obey the golden rule and back up the HD, my only remaining task is to recover files from the stricken imac.
A few questions:
In the FW target mode (using a PB as the host) can i at the same time also hook up an external FW drive to store bigger files?
Can i save preferences from Firefox, and if so, how are they imported to the new browser?
Where are all of the serial numbers and passwords i will need to restock this thing?
How could i be so dumb? (dont answer that one).

According to Apple you shouldn't have any other FW devices connected, though they don't mention USB.

Firefox prefs are in user/library/application support/firefox

You may want to take out the whole folder and put it in the same place on the new system once you install FF.

Serial numbers and passwords can be in many places, as plists in your user/library/preferences or sometimes within the application itself or the afformentioned Application Support folder. Be prepared to do some digging.

Hey, it happens to most of us at one time or another. smile.gif

So, are you going to try Vista? wink.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Hey all i need is a new Mac to run windows, right?
I was on that verge, i think until Krissel suggested Archive and Install for Leopard. It was spot on.
