FireFox issue: FireFox won't connect to FireFox Proxy Server
« on: January 19, 2008, 09:24:09 PM »
This is for the FireFox experts! When I tried to open FireFox 2.0.0.9, I got an error message stating

"Can't connect to FireFox Proxy Server"

I searched for such an "animal" but did not find it on the Mozzilla page, FF Help, etc. However, when I booted into my Backup OS, FF opened without a problem. So, I then made a copy From the Backup OS of User>Library>Application Support>FireFox. I then deleted the same folder on the main OS (where FF wouldn't open) and replaced it with the one from the backup.

Booted into Main and tried FF but got the same damn message as above. I then downloaded FF 2.0.11 and tried it but no joy - same error!

Any FF folks have any idea what I can do to fix the problem? I do not want to run from my Backup all the time.

Thanks,

MamaMoose

Thanks sandbox but I still have a problem. When I accesses the URL that you gave it said I should go to FireFox>Tools>Options. However there is no Options in the FF Tools menu! I did find "Connection Settings" in FF>Preferences>Advanced>Network. There I could choose Settings and a window appeared with the same choices as Item 4 in MalekTips. I assume that is where I need to make any changes.

Right now I am in my Backup OS where FF opens normally. Its setting for Connection settings is Direct Connection to the Internet. I assume that this is what I have to set when I boot my Main OS.

Thanks so much for your help. I am sending a new fancy sand bucket and a sand truck loader so that you can continue to help out all of is TSers!

<edit> I tried to inject this here earlier but the network broke down.

Before you try addresses, try this.
In firefox preferences goto> advanced>network> click settings and see if the “go directly to the internet” button is checked
(see Pics)

Sorry Mama, my fault. here's a Mac version http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/m...000dd6643a4RCRD

If you have a router place the address in the address box like HTTP: //192.168.0.1 or HTTP:// 10.0.0.1? that should get you through the problem. I'm just guessing here, not knowing what other firewalls or Proxies you may have.

SB,

Thanks. Itried thatand it worked. Somehow that particular prefernce had "Use local proxy selected". I switched it to "Connect directly to internet" and all is well.

Thanks,

Tom
