If the PRAM battery is discharged, it may not boot. One solution is to disconnect the PRAM battery connector & boot using the AC power adapter.

Here's some helpful laptop sites. They will show you how to disconnect the PRAM.

Try the power manager reset routine:

   1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
   2. Simultaneously press Shift-Fn (function)-Ctrl (control)-Power.
   3. Wait 5 seconds.
   4. Press the Power button to restart the PowerBook computer.

Found and bought one pram battery on ebay....

As it's really hard to access, i think i'm gonna replace the pram when i received it,  before trying to reboot or it's better to boot whithout for testing and having double work for replacing ..? Thinking.gif

Thanks

Unfortunately the PRAM battery in the Wallstreet requires almost a full dismantling of the PB to get to it. They changed the location in the Lombard and made it a really easy switch. If you are going to take it apart, just put the new battery in and don't make double work for yourself. It will not be a fun procedure. sad.gif

My Wallstreet still has the original PRAM in it. If the main battery is charged it will hold the settings but it isn't used much so I often find myself booting to OS 9 and then having to restart to get to X. One thing I do remember is that if the main battery is dead the PRAM battery charge will last only 5 minutes as it gets it's charge from the main battery. You may be wasting your time if you don't have a good main battery.

Try taking out the main battery and optical drive and unplugging the AC. (Make sure it is propped up in the rear so it won't flop backward.)
Wait for 10 minutes. Then do the power reset, wait a few seconds, plug in the AC and try to boot. Repeat this a couple times if needed.
You can also disconnect the keyboard and try booting.
Alternatively, if this fails you may want to go inside and make sure all is properly connected.
Then connect to AC and let it sit for awhile before trying to start up.

Do you hear anything? The fan? A whirring noise? My Wallstreet goes though a RAM memory check on its own when it starts up and will look like it isn't booting, just a black screen and no noise or action for about 30 seconds. Then suddenly I will hear the drive spin up and several seconds later the screen will come on. I often worry that it isn't working then remember this odd routine it goes through.

Tryed the power reset procedure...replug the power, the yellow light in the lower screen flashes 5 seconds whith   a spinning noise than stop, .....push the power button....  and the wallstreet boot !!!!

What can i do to minimize this problem in the future... boot the wallstreet every day..?

Anyway i gonna have a spare pram battery when it will be the only solution... don't have to open the powerbook now whistling.gif

Thanks very much notworthy.gif

whew.gif Was hoping you could get your Wallstreet running again. It was one of the best models Apple ever made.

You probably won't have to boot it everyday but it might be a good idea to keep it on AC as much as possible and start it up at least once a week. If this happens again, do the removal of AC, battery, etc. and reset procedure. Theoretically the PB does not need the PRAM battery to boot. It is only necessary to keep settings. If you are willing to put up with the annoyance of resetting the Date/Time, etc. at each startup, you won't have to replace the PRAM. That's one job I wouldn't want to do considering the extent of disassembly that you would have to do.
