Problem Backing Up

Hi guys,

I've used CCC before to back up, but now it won't recognize my password, and says that it is incorrect. I am the only person who has used this computer, and have of course given myself authorization to install, etc. with my chosen password. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get CCC to recognize me again? I've already repaired Permissions, so I know that is not the problem.

BTW - I have SilverKeeper installed too, but I don't know how to make a bootable CD with SilverKeeper, because I don't know how to exclude enough files & keep the essential ones so that all will fit on the CD.

Everything seems to be manual on SK, so I'd like to use CCC to make a bootable CD...!

Francine,

Does CCC ask for the system password? Make sure you have the case right. Is the Caps-lock light on?

I usually try to define my passwords in lower case unless some financial site requires a mix.

What has been happening is this:

CCC asks for the system password but doesn't accept it. Yeah...my password is all lower case letters, and caps lock wasn't on. I think the problem may be that my version of CCC is something like 1.2.1, which I installed before I updated to OS 10.3.9. I think version 2 point something is recommended for Panther (which I now have), and they're up to version 3 point something for Tiger or Leopard.  

In any case, I think I'll email the manufacturer before I download anything new.

BTW - My other apps which ask for the admin (or system) password, like Onyx, are accepting my password as usual. CCC is the only thing that's giving me trouble.

You need version 2.3 for Panther.

Yeah...thanks for your suggestion. I have the newer version installed now, and it doesn't seem to have a problem authenticating me.

One more question, though:

I think the last backup I created with CCC was "bootable," but CCC version 2.3 documentation says that a bootable CD cannot be created. Can I use CCC to create a bootable CD?

I don't thnk any cloning or copy software will let you create a bootable CD, only another bootable partition.

Altho I think I remember a thread somewhere (it may have been on MacFixIt) that gave a procedure to create a bootable CD.
