My wife watched the video last night and all she said was "Buy it!"

The best price I have found for iListen is at Buy.com, which is currently out of stock.  The price is around $123 with free shipping; when Dictate is released the upgrade for iListen owners who bought it in 2008 will be $29, a substantial savings over the $200 retail price of Dictate.

FWIW

When I called iListen (in NH) yesterday (as instructed by the minions manning their booth at MacWorld) I was told to open my yet un-opened box of iListen (purchased in December), install it, get the "code number", therein, call back with that number and for an additional $29 I could receive the latest and greatest.

The only thing I'd be cautious with, Mayo, is to get advanced reassurance that "the deal" applies to iListen copies purchased now, rather than late 2007.

According to the MacSpeech Web site "the deal" applies to iListen packages purchased in 2008.  There was some mention regarding 2007 purchases but I do not recall the details...

So is the included headset of reasonable quality?  What brand is it?

Haven't received it yet . . . mid-February, or something.

In the light of the near-universal condemnation (make that "concern") found in the user forum on the reported shortcomings of the included mic, they will be wise to make such a change. The pic I saw in the demo at MacWorld suggested that was the case.

Having had the conversation at MacWorld, and citing that over the phone, nothing was said about 2008 limitations on "the deal". They are, I surmise, furnishing wiggle-room for those who ask for it, in an effort to repair any damaged corporate/product image.

Would you mind providing a link to the user forum?

I am trying to determine if it is worthwhile to purchase iListen now or wait for Dictate. It may still be a decent deal even if I have to purchase a different mic...
