There's always that 10%!
10% use Software Update and never have problems. 10% use Cpmbo Updaters and never have problems. 10% have problems either way.
These figures are accurate to winthin 20 percentage points.
I just installed .2 and had the installer freeze with the "...a Restart will be required..." panel showing. Let it run over 20 minutes and could hear the HD doing
something. Force Quit wouldn't stop the Installer. Activity monitor showed the Installer
and Login controller as not responding. Quit both from within AM, restarted in Safe Mode and successfully installed on the second try. Nothing ill has happened so far. Airport connection is strong, don't have any Bluetooth devices to check.
One rarely used method of using Software Updater might make a difference when doing multiple updates. After
UNchecking any update you don't want, use the "Update->Download Only" menu function. Then use Safe Mode to do each update one at a time, with a restart and Safe Mode until all updates have been done. This will prevent any updater to be running while another one might be and it prevents any non-Apple software from running till the updates are complete.
Couple hours later: Lost Internet connection (via Airport Extreme v1) completely. Airport power 'bar' showed all gray! Went to Network, confirmed that Airport was selected and active. Clicked "Advanced" to get to the IP/TCP info and asked to Renew the Lease. That seemed to work fine and all is well now.
Except...
I cannot connect to Judy's iBook. I had earlier seen the warning that it was about to "Disconnect" but it didn't actually do that. After the update to 10.5.2, I don't seem able to connect at all. Checked I had her IP address correct. Using the Go->Browse shows both her Mac and the laser that is connected to he Airport BS. However, selecting her machine offers only to "Share Screen" which I don't think is really possible since she is still using Tiger.
Well, I can
now connect to her Mac!
Must be just certain hours that it's not available!
