It's probably me.
I agreed to make a DVD slideshow of my father's recent euro trip. I had done this twice before and it seemed pretty straight forward. I used iDVd (i think), selected a theme, dropped in jpgs, music, even videos, and in no time at all had a pro looking show ready to burn to DVD.
Now iDVD doesnt seem to work the same way. It could be me. I think it's Leopard.
When i open the app, it doesnt give the same bells and whistles as before, no tour with music and a display of the themes. Even when i try to select a theme, it is never presented.
But maybe  I am forgetting something. That seems to be a common recurrence these days.
I tried iPhoto's slide show and it doesn't have nearly the effect.

Could someone please give me a quick, simple step by step on how to get started on a slide show. Then I'll see exactly where this is going wrong.

By the way, i agreed to have this done by Friday. Otherwise I would just update the the iLife package.

Hingyfan, which version of iDVD are you using? I just opened iDVD 6 in Leopard and clicked start new project - and was presented with all sorts of themes etc. Very cool, actually - I'd never explored it before!!

Have you repaired permissions lately? Tried reinstalling iDVD?

hingyfan...I just opened iDVD 08. It also presented me with a ton of themes and the music. It even allows me to select via a pulldown, from 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, and OldTthemes.

Not much help I guess...but that's what I got. Good Luck!

I am at work now so cant say exactly what version i have but it was the original one that came with the imac, which is now at least five years old.
How would i reinstall the application? It was part of the original install.

If it's at least five years old, then it's possible that it just isn't compatible any more. As for reinstalling, it should be on the original install disks that came with the iMac.

My iDVD is 5.0.1. Worked before i installed Leopard, as did Photo Booth.
 I guess it's a new iLife for me and tell Dad his DVD can wait. He's going away again so he wont mind. And i guess i can live without Photo Booth. I don't know if my vain nephew can, if he visits again.

Yup, iDVD 5 doesn't work with Leopard. You will have to get 6 or run from a Tiger install.

Im sort of glad i had not forgotten how to use this application over the course of a few months.
Kind of upset Apple constantly makes me buy the same things over.


Can i just buy th enew iLife and it will work?

It should.  I read some uncomplimentary reviews of iMovie 8 and apparently there were so many complaints that if you buy iLife8 they include the opportunity to download iMovie 6 as well.

Picked this out of the MacWorld article.

As it says...when I installed iLife 08 it left the previous version of iMovie 06 on my hard drive.

You should be fine with the new iDVD.

The new iMovie is loathesome for stills.  Unhelpful and stilted and lost most of its useful features that the old iMovie has.

iDVD- I haven't tried to make a slideshow using that.  Didn't know you could actually.

For quick and easy slideshows, XABD pointed me in the direction of Fotomagico and I have never looked back.  A really simple slideshow app that works very well.  I think you can download a demo version and it is worth every penny if you want to buy it.
