East Coast TS Caucus
« on: May 22, 2008, 03:55:08 AM »
Well, at last there was a meeting of two East Coast TS members. Those guys on the West Coast have been having all the fun til now. smile.gif

Chris and Kris met for a chat at a diner in NJ and talked about all of you... toothgrin.gif

It was really a joy to finally get a chance to confirm what a great guy that guitarman really is. Yes, folks, he is as nice as he seems in print.

There is only one picture of the event since my camera decided it's batteries would only last for one shot even after being recharged the night before.  dry.gif

Thanks for the photo.gif and "report".

Yeah, our new digital camera has problems, or I should say the re-chargable batteries do.

Film camera, standard batteries; more reliable. Ah, progress.... :sigh:
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Another Historic First at TS! clap.gif Thanks for the (single) picture! tongue.gif

BTW, Chris is the ugly one with the beard, right?! flower-smilie.gif

Now, who's up for a "Mid-South, Elvis Division, TS Group Meeting?" I'll even pay for the Bar-B-Q! May have three bedrooms available, also. Discounted rates for those guests who can cook or operate riding lawnmowers (free gas, too!)! laugh.gif

I had a good chicken salad sandwich that I polished off later, lousy pickle though!!!

We had quite a good long chat, Kris nursed her cup of tea for almost two hours!

Hopefully we'll do it again sometime when I'm running around in New Jersey!

Good stuff, I recommend that we all go to Jim's for some barbecue this fall, I'll grill! whistling.gif

A 2 hour cup of tea. Those must have been humongous cups. toothgrin.gif

Thanks for the spiffy picture. I'm gonna tuck it into my TS album. smile.gif

Nothing worse than a lousy pickle.

Is it time for another refresher on the differences between 'grilling' and Bar-B-Q? rolleyes.gif The only similarity is that there is usually some kind of 'grill' to place the meat on in the smoker. But it's more likely to be half inch rebar than that shiny stuff! Oh yeah, they both use heat but in very different ways and amounts. laugh.gif You 'Yankees' would never take the time required for real BBQ, that's why you try to call cooking on those shallow pans of fast burning matter laced with kerosine, "Barbecuing!" nono.gif But as the guy on TV always says, "Come on down!" We'll treat you to some nectar of the god's to put on the pork! Or, you can eat your ribs dry. clap.gif This area has more varieties of BBQ than Carter has pills! And 80% of it is great! The other 20% is just fabulous! laugh.gif yum.gif It's so good, many people refuse to return North just so they can get more BBQ! Seriously! Scouts honor! wink.gif

Apparently, Sir XAirbusdriver, you are imbued with a common misconception amongst some otherwise well-intentioned folks from the South. There are those of us who take the time to slow-smoke our brisket and pork butts up here in the north too, Yankees or not! Excuse me for the use of the word "Grill"... in the case of ribs, brisket. apple-smoked chicken, or otherwise, the "grill" is only used after an appropriate use of slow-smoking, to bring the dry-rubbed, slow-smoked little beauties to their defining moment with an appropriate slathering of some real sauce to finish them off and bring them to the table.

By the way, my mother is from West-by-God-Virginia, so watch out who you callin' Yankee! nono.gif tease.gif

So don't be saying stuff like

Because if gas prices weren't so high, I'd hitch the Bistro Henry smoker to my truck and come on down with some good old Northern maple and applewood loaded in the firebox and have a thow-down right in your driveway!

My father lived the last years of his life in North Carolina, and I've never had anything like their Pit-style barbecue, pretty amazing stuff.

Oh brother, now that I look at that pic after a good night's sleep, I think I should have spent some time in Photoshop (on me) before I uploaded it. rolleyes.gif

Yup, we really should have some more TS meetings. yes.gif

Hey Chris, Jim did say:

free gas, too!

Sooo, you get your cooker hitched to the truck and we can both fill up our buggies courtesy of Jim for the trip south.  toothgrin.gif

Well, EXCUSE ME! laugh.gif I take back half of what I said about you! tongue.gif Sounds like yore Mammy n Pappy done learned fine! clap.gif

So, bring any kind of chips you got on your shoulder and be careful draggin' that smoker! Too bad you didn't mention your talents sooner, we just got through with the Memphis in May BBQ contest. Only way to get in and actually taste anything is to be a contestant! But we have two very highly rated BBQ establishments within a couple of miles of the house. So you can leave the smoker up in the mountains if you want to make it easier on my pocketbook!

Now, you and Kris work out when you can come but give me several dates, Judy doesn't always tell me when I have a day/weekend off! laugh.gif

As for who looks like what, I don't think we ever like our own pictures any more than we enjoy hearing a recording of our voices! blush-anim-cl.gif Why do you think most of us use 'avatars?' wink.gif Fortunately, we're all friends around here and ones 'beauty' is much deeper than what we may look like! clap.gif I think we've got more 'beautiful' people at TS than just about any place I know, especially on the interweb! cheer.gif

Hey, seriously, if they have another Mac thing in Boston, we should meet there?
Its only 70 miles north of us.  Gas is still cheaper than milk and I like milk better than gas.
Would be fun,,,,
