I just found an article called "Help Save Michelle's Life" at MacsimumNews. Erroneously thinking it was a story about how a certain politician running for President and his request to help his wife, I followed the link to the original site: <Project Michelle>

Turns out to be a completely different lady and the help you can give may not ever be used by her. But there are thousands of others who might need exactly what you can give them. Consider joining the "Project" either locally or via mail! The life you save will be a friend for life! smile.gif

Of course, we all need to be making regular blood donations. And they aren't quite as limiting as the requirements above. The blood you give today will either be used or destroyed before you can give again! Don't count on somebody else to do this. It takes a lot of us! wink.gif salute.gif

Our kids do this, and are in the match database now, but we cannot, as we have had Lyme disease. Its endemic here on Cape Cod, but we have always given blood before Lyme got us.
Weve been sort of selected out from doing this and giving blood now, because of Lyme, as it might not ever really be eradicated from our systems.
And I was part of the old original study with the innoculations which were stopped because of nasty side effects, which I didnt get, thank goodness.
My husband was on antibiotics for a year with his Lyme!

But please everybody else, go forth!

We have some friends who are seeing two of their Grandkids off today for 90 consecutive days of treatment in Kansas City. Two injections a day for each. ~$75K each! Ouch! Trouble is, it took nearly a year to get the final diagnosis. Apparently Lyme can present so many different symptoms.

Got me worrying about a tick I 'captured' last Friday. I sprayed it with WD-40 and it didn't like that but I must have made it too slippery for it to get any traction! wacko.gif Cleaned it off in the shower and dowsed it with rubbing alcohol. bottled.gif Still left part of its head under the skin. nopity.gif If the redness doesn't go away soon, I'm headed for the Doc! scram.gif Need a refill on some fabulous anti-biotic cream, anyway. sos.gif

Jim, don't fool around with that tick bite.  If there is any chance of Lyme, the sooner you get to a doc the better. If caught in early stages it can be effectively treated with antibiotics.


As to bone marrow, I've been on the donor list since the late 80's. But just checking the marrow.org site I see that they may reject  someone as a donor after age 60 due to potential anesthesia problems. Boo, hiss.
   
Also used to give blood at least 3 times a year but have cut back on that. Have 3 gallon pins so far.
I like to think that someone out there is better today due to receiving my blood. smile.gif

Lyme used to be difficult to diagnose, but now that its rampant in this area, most all doctors know about it.
We went to a specialist who lives in the area, and we were surprised at the research going on about it.  Its a similar bug to Syphillis and Recurring Fever. Pardon the spelling,,,
When I was part of the study, I knew many people from the area who were in wheelchairs because of undiagnosed Lyme.
My husband could write a book on the subject, and its in our local papers almost daily.

So get to a doctor!  He will put you on Doxycycline.  And many times people wont see that bulls-eye rash.

Here are some recent American dog ticks we take off Lilly daily, swimming in rubbing alcohol, I sure wish we could put Frontline on ourselves.  There arent many Deer ticks in this jar, we see them more in the fall.  And the deer arent in our yard any more, since we have a dog.  The canine scent keeps them out.

Been taking the anti-biotic since last Wednesday. Bite area looking more like normal. clap.gif

An update concerning the kids in Kansas City. The younger one has now been diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever rather than Lyme. Will still be taking injections and health should improve faster now that the true problem is known. smile.gif

Well, good grief. I just read this. I'm glad you hightailed it to the doc. Lyme disease is nothing to fool around with.

What is it with so many of your guys, anyhow?

I think after all we've been through the past 8 wks., Sneakers will be a lot less reluctant to see the doc about things in the future.

Sadly, we can't donate blood here.  There are no facilities or something, which I think is extraordinary.

I used to donate blood in London, in St Margaret's Street.  It was fine and I took a pride in knowing I had done this.  I was a nurse so I could see the benefits immediately!

"Donations Story"
A fellow donator was stopped in a large parking lot by a fellow looking at the window sticker claiming 18 gallons donated. The fellow looked up at the car owner and said flatly, "I know for a fact that the human body does not have 18 gallons of blood! That sign must be wrong." doh.gif rofl.gif

Laws of ins trip is scheduled for June 16 - 20.  Believe me, we'll be putting ON lots of Off! smile.gif

These kids live about a block from where I used to. It's a well developed urban area, no empty areas where deer could exist. There is a horse farm about half a mile away...They also had a dog that appeared sick and then died. The vet who lives next door suggested that the dog may have been a carrier after traveling around the area. Probably will never know the exact path for the disease. The point is to treat any reddening around the bite to be serious. The doctors would also be helped by bringing the tick to the doc with you. Apparently, there is this tiny little water board they can use to get the truth out of the tick...all I know is WD40 didn't seem to help. I think the tick wanted to retreat but couldn't get any traction in all that oil...

The Doc said smear it with Vasoline, seems it senses it can't breath and backs out. Seems a little too complicated for a brain that size to even know it is not able to breathe much less 'reason' a way to correct that problem. dntknw.gif
