Slife...
« on: August 22, 2008, 01:48:01 PM »
This morning I did a Google search for time-tracking software and I stumbled onto Slife.

It isn't for keeping track of time spent on projects for billing purposes, etc.  Behind the scenes it monitors what you do on your computer, keeping track of what apps you use as well as when and for how long you use them. You can even track the amount of time spent working on an individual document or viewing a Web page. It is easy to control via a Finder Menu Bar icon and you decide which applications you want to monitor. If being monitored starts to creep you out a bit "Private Mode" is one-click away...

Graphical reports illustrate usage by the day, month, applications, web/documents, activities and goals that are user-defined.

Ever wonder how much time you spend each day playing poker online? Or how much you waste checking your e-mail? How about the myriad hours spent here at TechSurvivors? Now there is a way to keep track!

Slife is meant to be a productivity tool, but I'm going to use it for the fun of it. I've disabled most of the default apps and added my writing, research and image editing/cataloging programs. (I kept Safari and iTunes enabled.) It will be interesting to see how much time I spend doing research vs. actually writing and how the ratio changes as I work my way through a project. I'm currently sifting through hundreds of medical journal reports and abstracts so for the time-being DEVONagent is receiving the majority of my attention; now I can see just how much I am using it!

I still need time-tracking software but Slife will add another piece to the puzzle...
