How do I remove the annoying "Are you sure you want to restart?" and "Are you sure you want to shut down?" messages in OS 10.2.6?

I did this in 10.2.3 but i can't remember how.

Hi Creek,

When you go to restart or shutdown, hold the Option key down.

To see the key affect on the menu items, open the menu under the apple and while it's open hit the Option key.

I just remembered how I originally manged to get rid of the shutdown/restart messages.

I had Fruit Menu installed. In Fruit menu one of the Apple Menu choices is for quitting without the message, another choice is for restarting without the message.

This is THE solution for those who are: a) too forgetful to hold down the Option key, and

too technically challenged to use terminal commands.

Are you saying that if I start up with command-S, I can type ths command with my password and the message will disappear?

Jennie, if you're asking wether that command will permanently remove the Finder message, the answer is NO. That command will only shutdown your computer or restart it if the -r option is used instead of the -h. It will also allow you to specify a time and date for that to occur. You could replace the "now" with, either a number indicating minutes or a date and time for longer periods.

For those who prefer the 'old way', as I do, there's a simple solution... just hold the control and tap the 'eject' key. Follow with an 'enter' or 'return' to Shut Down. If you want to restart [or cancel], then you have to 'mouse' to that command. There's no confirmation box to deal with.

It's fast and easy--I always use it...

Not that I'm aware of. Apple would have to give us that option and program it into the system or someone would have to "hack out" a system patch.

Something else removed from the 'standard' interface?!

And what is it now, 10.3? That's a lot of changes and we're still not able to get this simple procedure as an option? Maybe in .4 they will give us a "Start" Menu!

I have Fruit Menu, but I really don't see this option. Can you point me towards it?

In FruitMenu it's not actually a choice to disable that message. Just add Shutdown and restart to the FruitMenu and you won't get the message.
Under the Apple Menu tab, add these to the left side under Your Apple Menu.

Ah, shades of GoMac with the ShutDown command in the popup "dock".

For further nostalgia...remember hitting any Shutdown command via menu or keyboard and letting "OkeyDokeyPro" hit the default button for you?
