I do not know who that "To" address is. Nor did I send any feedback form. But I am sooooooooooo tempted to buy AP 7.0 for $45. Does anyone know if this is a legitimate offer?

I tried to find anything to do with this... though I have a strong suspicion that it's just spam. They probably are either trying to validate your email, so they can send more junk or selling you pirated software. Perhaps even both! There is an internet service provider called Wise Net, so perhaps that part is valid, but the rest of the email sounds fishy.

Plus it's probably a PC version.

If you really want to get Photoshop but don't want to pay the big bucks, you can always try eBay. I got my version a while ago for an excellent price. To get the best deal, get an older unregistered version. Then, once you purchase it and register, you can get all the updates for the "Upgrade" price instead of full cost. It's an idea or I've also heard that the "smaller" version of photoshop, Elements is very good.

I just jumped over to eBay, at the moment (doing a quick search from the main page, I'm sure there are more) there are 2 full version of both 5 and 7. 5 is going for $104 and has a day left, there is a 7 that is $199 at the moment and another that has a buy it now of 259, a reserve is on the second so I don't know what the low price is. There are no bidders on the second one. It ends in two days. Hope this helps.

This message is spam.

The To: address is completely bogus. If you look at the Internet headers, you will see that you received it as a Bcc:

Propbably 90% of spam is sent this way--it's blind carbon copied to the vicitms--er, recipients. That way, you have no idea how many other people received the spam.

This particular spam was sent from what is called an "open FormMail relay." You can tell because all FormMail relays put the line "Below is the result of your feedback form" on them.

To answer your question: No, it is not legitimate. If you gave these guys your money, you would receive one of two things: either

1. Nothing, but your credit card would mysteriously end up maxed out next month, or

2. An illegal, bootleg copy of Photoshop for Windows that you could not register or get tech support on, and possibly mysterious charges on your credit card as well.

These scams are discussed repeatedly on the newsgroup comp.graphics.apps.photoshop. If you post the email again with full headers, i might even be able to tell you which con artist was responsible for it.

It is funny, though, how no one is immune to the pull of an addiction. I still have the original AP 4.0 LE (limited edition) that came along with my Epson Photo EX printer, going on 5 years now! I love playing with AP & my videos -- but alas, it is just an avocation for me now. I simply don't have the time to spend on it, but I do plan to do that some day. Then, I'll go out and spend whatever to buy the very latest version.

Tacit, I don't have the e-mail any more. But I have a feeling it won't be long before I get another one!

Thanks again, everyone, for your good, sage advice. Now I can go back to maxing out my credit cards myself!

This has been very interesting, even though I have yet to PS 4.0 LE, Lorraine!

What I'm mulling over is what appears to be the rise of computer-related internet sales fraud. Is that real, or is it just more obvious recently because of several instances which have shown up on TS?

Anyone know of any statistics?

I'm sure my Mozilla spam control is saving my sanity. I'm now receiving over 75 a day (just in the last 2-3 months the numbers have climbed astonishingly) which, presumably, are mostly "financial" in nature.

I even got an ad for e-mail address lists, glowingly claiming that I could have 5,000,000 addresses for only $29.95, from which a "sure" 1% would respond to my pitch.

Hmmm. Since at any given moment 20,000,000 people residing in the USofA don't know the name of the President, perhaps that 5,000 "sure thing" isn't so "unreasonable"!

I wonder what it may take, if anything, to extinguish this spammer behavior?
