I have always used BBEdit, so if there's some extension of this program that will fit the need (other than buying the pro version), I'd love to use it.

Hi,

Cheap limits the options, Free makes them almost non-existent. BUT, I found free. (Must have OSX)

I've been using this program for several months now..upgrading from versions .5 to .7 to .9. as they come out. It's great and does way more than colorcode your work.

Note: it's not even to version 1 yet...very much beta, but the bugs I've found are never catastrophic. The other caveates are that you will have to build it from source..(was easy to do). Download the .tar.gz or .tar.bz2 along with the MD5 checksum for verification. You'll have to determine which gtk your OSX machine is able to use (hopefully gtk2)..and you might have to install the gtk2, or you may find it's already installed. The make and installation for the program itself was almost done in a literal blink of an eye.

PageSpinner is inexpensive and may meet your needs. Likewise, TextWrangler  (the current "light" version of BBEdit) has a lot to recommend it. Either would be a good choice.

RE: BlueFish, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this'll run only on X11...so you'll need that plus all the libs, plus gtk (gimp tool kit)...etc...

...but it looks good.

If you have fink installed, they have the download setup for apt-get, which'll make it even easier.

Hi Karl, you're right... when I think second thoughts, it probably isn't something he'll want to mess with unless he wants to do things the unixy (*grin*) way. (I made that up. ) I looked at Fink a little bit when I had the Mac up and running, but I never got very far. It looked very cool.

I am impressed with Blue Fish though. I'll encourage anyone with the inclination to try it.

PS *grin..the nice thing about Linux Red Hat install..all those libs and tool kits are already in there. I forget what's on the Mac by default and what extra might be needed. I need you and Tacit to keep reminding me of these little details and possible erroneous assumptions I'm prone to make.    :whistle:
