There was a column in our paper written by a guy who was obviously overcome with emotion following the historic election of the first A-A president. He related the story of his then young son who came home from school beaming about the mock election they had held that day. (I presume the year was 1988 or 1992.) The young boy proudly proclaimed, "I voted for George Bush, and George Bush won!" Of course, this was reported by the father with much chagrin. laughhard.gif

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

On the other hand, PC users can change their votes from Obama to McCain by going to www.ohnohewon!.con

Since PC users are more numerous, we could have another 2000 all over again. clap.gif

FoxNews
Some would say that is a contradiction of terms...tongue.gif At least you're assured of hearing another side of the 'news!' Personally, I still prefer "NewsHour" on TV or any of the morning or evening news shows on NPR. Seldom do they report any major story without a person from each 'camp.' Nor do they 'interpret' the story for you. Of course, they don't do a lot of sports and entertainment...

But there's still the matter of the stories they choose to tell you about, and those they choose to ignore....

But the point is that you don't know what stories they are not telling you; not all of them anyway. Therefore, you don't know how many of them you would consider to be "trash". But, I agree that there are "news" stories that can safely be ignored, and don't deserve to be on the air. That's why I don't watch Entertainment Tonight and other programs of that ilk. It drives me nuts when the local "news" includes "stories" promoting programming on the network's prime time schedule. That air time was just wasted, and something else the public has a "right" to know goes untold.

Haven't come across any, so far. But I don't get to watch every night. It's the time they take with the important stories that makes it completely different than anything I can remember on commercial TV. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox, Limbaugh, etc. all speak in small 'sound bites[sic]' in an attempt to whisk as much as possible by the audience trying to convince them that they are seeing/hearing "all" the news. Quantity instead of quality, IMHO. Number of items instead of number of minutes. No differentiating an assassination attempt in a foreign country and the latest escapades of Brittany Whoever. YMMV. Then, there are the separate shows for the stock market and certainly not least, the BBC World Report. That's 2.5 hours right there, five days a week! And they barely touch sports and entertainment. But if you think any thirty minute commercial network is going to cram that into less than 22 minutes, be my guest! rofl.gif I do my best to help PBS/NPR continue in their mission. So long. salute.gif deadhorse.gif

I rarely watch news on TV - it's like watching news for the those with attention deficit disorder! It drives me nuts. And Faux News is one of the worst. I read newspapers (what a concept) - both the kind that get dropped at the front door in the morning and the online ones from places I used to live/NYT etc. I also listen to the CBC (NPR for Canadians) and NPR via the internet. I have my Yahoo home page in Safari set up with RSS feeds from most of the major international news agencies, our two major national/city newspapers, NYT, the BBC, various tech sites, DPreview, NPR...the possibilities are endless these days. It's a wonderful way to explore a whole lot of different sites without having to check each one individually.

Yep. If you want "all the news that's fit to print" you have to read. complain.gif
