Leopard / FileMaker compatibility
« on: November 11, 2008, 11:41:54 AM »
The other day, I noticed herein a request for compatibility information on old apps w/ Leopard. What was helpfully posted was dated, I believe, sometime last year.

While I've been enjoying Leopard on my new MB Pro, I just about at the cusp of moving from Tiger to Leopard on my iMac.

The compatibility list cited FileMaker 8.x as problematical (maybe) in the presence of Leopard.

That could be very inconvenient for me.

Curiously, it doesn't seem to be a major problem, or not yet even a minor one, on the MB Pro (Leopard vs. FM 8.x)   Thinking.gif

Anyone have any reassuring experience you'd care to relate here?

I skipped from 7 to 9, so I don't really know about 8. But even seven ran on Leopard without any problems for me. dntknw.gif Perhaps that poster could elaborate? And that data is somewhat dated, could be that FM made corrections to 8 to eliminate any known problems.

Your last sentence, SB, is what I suspect may have happened.

Thanks.

You are correct, SB.

Now, with respect to FileMaker and Leopard: Today, I "made the move" and what a move.

Going from 10.4.11 (believe it was) to 10.5.5 . . . finally . . . took only about an hour and 15 minutes, after I previously had cleaned up my DT, had backed-up, and run DiskUtility to get everything ready. P-i-e-c-e o' c-a-k-e hardly describes the process. I think it was required that I click the mouse but 4-5 times, throughtout. NO HEAVY lifting, in fact no lifting at all.

Amazing.

Come take a stroll with me down Memory Lane. Think back to the days of Type (x) Errors, Clean Installs, Conflict Catcher (again, and again and again), of harmonizing Control Panels abd Extensions, rebuilding desktops. They don't make 'em like they used to . . . thank goodness.

And, despite the compatibility alert, FileMaker just sailed along (as it has since about 1987, I think).

Oh joy,

With Pogue at my elbow I'm exploring more bells-and-whistles than I could imagine. This is more fun that the Christmas I got my first Schwinn (1938!)
