What is now quite bizarre is that despite the upgrade to the separate video card and larger amount of RAM, they left the FW port. So...if you want to have FW and a MacBook, you have to buy the low end one. Weird.

I think that is part of the reason they continue to offer the white model ...for those who want/need a FW port.

Also they upgraded the software to iLife 09.

I think you're right. So the big improvement is the graphics card. Probably because of all the Core Graphics stuff being used more and more by the OS? Is that one that can be used as another processed?

So iLife '09 made it out before the end of the month! smile.gif

Being a iBook owner this offering appeals to me. Why?

1st- the wifi is stronger...I've used aluminum books and they don't compare.
and then-the plastic doesn't dent.
and-it handles heat better
and- now it has a FW port!!!  thumbup.gif

Just one caveat to the white MacBook... the case is prone to cracking.

I've read many threads at Apple and other places complaining about cracks in various places on the outer case. But the good news is that Apple is replacing the parts for free even in out of warranty situations.

My niece bought one in August and at Christmas brought her MacBook to show my Mom (trying to see if the screen was big enough for Mom's eyes). She purchased a hard shell protector for the Mac but nonetheless she had a small split in the case near the latch. I told her that I had read about the problem and to take it to the nearest Apple store. She did and they fixed it promptly.

So keep that in mind, but it otherwise is a good value. smile.gif
