Ideas to fix the economy
« on: March 26, 2009, 10:16:09 AM »
This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea. I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force; pay them $1 million apiece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

Sometimes simple solutions are the best solutions.

However, I'm not sure I could qualify:

I'm over 50.

But I'm retired, so no job opening created.

Have a 2000 model pickup & a 2007 model SUV, but I gess I could get a newer one.

My house is paid off, but I guess I could buy a better one.
Cheers, Tom

A million dollars ain't what it used to be.  smile.gif

That sounds good for the first few years, then what? One million dollars doesn't go that far if you use a few hundred thousand to buy a house or pay off a mortgage. You'd have enough left over to live in an extremely frugal manner for a while but certainly not through old age. Besides, many people in that group are still paying off their kids college expenses. And judging from what I've seen, all too many would blow through the leftover in no time and then end up on welfare.

And you won't get any execs to leave for that paltry amount.  no2.gif

In addition, I think you'll find that most of the people who are having trouble with foreclosure are not over 50. According to AARP about a quarter of those in foreclosure are over 50.

Besides, I'm not so sure losing a large chunk of experienced individuals in some professions is a good idea.  wink.gif

THE ECONOMY

Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Now let me get this right.....
The guy that made $50 billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $750 billion disappear...

The economy is so bad:

        * CEO's are now playing miniature golf.

        * Even people who have nothing to do with the Obama Administration
          aren't paying their taxes...

        * Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.

        * Obama met with small businesses to discuss the Stimulus Package:
          GE, Pfizer and Citigroup.

        * PETA serves chicken wings at their meetings

        * McDonalds is selling the 1/4- ouncer.

        * People in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their
          children's names.

        * A truck of Americans got caught sneaking into Mexico .......

        * The most highly-paid job is now jury duty.

        * Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting....

        * People in Africa are donating money to Americans.

        * Mothers in Ethiopia are telling their kids, "finish your plate, don't you know how many kids are starving in the US ?"

        * Motel Six won't leave the light on for you any more...

        * The Mafia is laying off judges.

Cheers, Tom

He, he.

Maybe it's time we start a reverse Nigerian email scam.... poor spelling and grammar included.

QUOTE
Dear Mr. Mobutu,

Your assistance is needed. We have owner of a great sum of money that is set in bank accounts. These moneys can not be sent to ourself directly do to US government rules. You can be of help in getting this money and for your time we will give you 40 percent of these amount which is billions of dollars.

But in order for you to be allowed to be a party to the transaction, you need to have holdings at a US bank of $100,000 or more. Once you have deposited that amount you can give me the number of account and we will then be able to move these moneys to your account. You will then take out the whole amount, keep your share and send the rest to us.

Waiting for your reply,
