smilies on TS
« on: May 27, 2003, 01:01:01 PM »
When I pass my cursor over the smilies, the pop-up just says "smilie" instead of describing its intended meaning. Now, some of them are obvious, and some are not. Some show you a word when you use them, but at least one does not. Anyone with more time on his/her hands who wants to do an inventory for us, go for it! What do some of these "mystery" smilies mean?
(yeah, the ones holding signs are among the obvious)

what browser are you using?  I use Safari and when I put my cursor over a smiley the description comes up in the status bar thing at the bottom of the window.  I don't get a pop up.

Jay is right, the text indicators should show in the bar at the  bottom of your browser if you have that bar activated (status bar in IE).

Another way to see what each represents is to click the Show All and the resultant window has the text next to each smilie.

Here at work I use IE with Windows. I have no idea what versions, or how to find out. Ain't no status bar at the bottom. Don't know for sure what behavior I get at home with OS9.2 and Comm 4.8

I did just click the "Show All" link, and I see many of them are words inside of colons, but several are not. In this window, when I pass my cursor over the smilies, I do get specific descriptions. Nice to see some of the old TS favorites there too!

In the Mac version of IE you can activate the various parts of the browser window by View in the Menu. The Button, Address, Favorites, Status and Explorer bars can be shown or not by selecting them. I'll bet the Windows version has something like that.

As for the few smilies that don't have word descriptions, well, you just have to imagine what they mean by the expression on the face.  smile.gif

There are a couple that kind of throw me a bit. One is  dry.gif  which I pesonally translate as "miffed", "humph" or "izat so?".

The other two are  sleep.gif   happy.gif . These to me are kind of nebulous and not full of easy to decipher meaning. That's why they are on the other page since they probably wouldn't be used as much. We can't put them all on the reply page cause that would make the reply box smaller or make you scroll forever to get to the submit button.

Anyone notice the newbie?   taped.gif

Kris, I first noticed it yesterday, but being an unassuming, unpretentious, reticent, and soft-spoken to a fault kinda guy, I thought it best that I keep my lips sealed taped.gif
